Add me to the Ecco group. I decided a long time ago there are two things I won't go cheap on. Cold weather apparel and shoes.

Timberland and Docs for the boots, unless you can get to Aus, that opens another option, but similar to both.
Shoes would be Ecco for sure. Spendy, but you get what you pay for.

Over 8 years at a regional (read many many walk arounds) and bought my second pair of Timberland boots at the 4 yr mark. I still wear the first pair, just not quite up to snuff for work.

Cole Haan's with Nike air in the sole are the absolute most comfortable work shoe. They are expensive, but you can find them at Nordstrom Rack for cheaper.

Have to echo the Ecco sentiment. Beware, they have recently begun manufacturing some of their products in China, which is disappointing. The Helsinki slip on is still manufactured in Europe.

I would never buy Ecco's on line. Because they are hand made, no two shoes are exactly the same. It's best to try them on at an Ecco store or Nordstrom to guarantee the best fit.

Bulletproof, comfortable enough to walk 10 miles in and will give you years of service for $150. Not expensive in my mind.

.02 from a 15 year Ecco customer.

My cousin is a shoe salesman for nordstrom. When I asked him about the Ecco Helsinki, he said they DID switch over to china production recently. He then pointed me in the direction of the Ecco Seattle, which was still of proud EU manufacturing. Anybody out there that can verify "airport-friendly" on the Ecco Seattle?

Sincerely,
Captain with wet socks....

Funny you ask. I started the thread for help. I went with the Ecco Seattle. Figured I made a mistake after all the Helsinki input. Very happy with the Seattle. 100% airport friendly.

Bostonian Bolton, very lightweight, comfortable and airport safe. They hold up to the cold and moisture very well. They are easily shined/polished as well.
