Yes, the joy of possibly benefitting from another's loss is still alive and well in the airline pilot profession. I understand you may say you didn't mean it like that, but isn't it interesting that's the first reaction ? :(

Plus, the DFW base will go very senior

A lot of the senior captains from DFW are on the 700. It remains to be seen what is more important to them: living in base or flying the mighty 7/900.

I know what you're saying, but that is business and life. I left Comair and am now flying for ExpressJet. Am I benefiting from my own loss?

I don't mean to sound harsh, but seriously, that's how contractors work.

If one paving company loses a city contract to another paving company, so be it. If one taxi company loses an airline crew contract to another taxi company, so be it.

Sucks for 1 side and not for another.

No, it's a strategic move. They need to begin the process of bringing other camels noses thru the tent flap, but they also want to use it as just enough of a message to produce a result. See, if AMR announced another carrier flying perhaps 75 E-175's out of ORD and DFW, it would create too much anger and would jeopardize a contract vote instead of improve its chances. No turning back on that either, once announced.

This move is just enough to both start a process they're going to anyway and just enough of a love tap to send the message they want. Once they get the agreement with the pilots, then they are free to act with impunity.

Horse before cart.

The downside is that once this model is in place, everyone ends up being the side that "sucks". In the not to distant future, that reality will be back around to tap you on the shoulder and you'll have decide how cheap you're willing to work for or watch your flying shifted elsewhere.

You're on top this go around, so enjoy it, but within 4 years someone else will be repeating your words back to you on this forum.

Unfortunately, this is the future. You will all be pitted against each other having to defend your flying periodically FROM each other as outsourced contractors. Difficult how to see that not getting emotional.
