Skywest FOM question
Here's an odd one for you Skywest guys......what does your FOM say about flashlights? I need to buy my brother a birthday present and he just started to fly for you. When I was at ACA/IDE (sighhhhh), we were required to carry a flashlight with two D cell batteries. I've since moved on and now carry a LED light that's just as bright and my flight bag seemingly lost half it's weight. So any requirement on the type of flashlight or just that you have to have one?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Go out and hit walmart... Brinkman makes a small (slightly larger than mini-mag light) rubberized zenon flashlight. It's the brightest thing that I have found so far when comparing cost. IIRC it was about 15 bucks.
The only downside is that it takes nonstandard camera batteries (the squat little ones about the size of an AA battery cut in half). Even so, I've had mine for over a year and a half and have yet to replace the batteries.
10 times brighter than any LED flashlight I've come across.

And remember, if your FOM requires you to carry one, this is an unreimbursed job expense that can be deducted, so get a good one that will last you. (Tax time is approaching!)
In the Avro we had a company provided 2 D-cell flashlight in the F/O's seat back pocket for preflight activities. That was a sweet deal since I never had to buy batteries.

SUREFIRE makes a great light. 2 or 3 times brighter than any MAG or the like. (The batterys are 12-15 bucks tho). It is small, very light, has a twist bottom so it doent turn on in your bag and the best part..the DEFENDER model fits in your hand so both ends stick out each side of your palm and the light has a strike bezzel? so you can knock that crazy captain upside the head and wake him up!

I've got a police issue LED flashlight that has a high-bright white, a high-bright red and a low red. There is a rotary switch with a safety position and a button on the bottom. Works great since it wont turn itself on if its in the safety position and the red works great if you drop your pen under the rudder pedals or need to dig in your bag in a dark cockpit and you don't want to blind the other guy.
