This guy is a real idiot. I mean can you believe all the assumptions he made? With something as predictable as the airline industry he should only speak in terms that will definitely prove true in the future. I demand infallible predictions and no more assumptions and educated conjectures.

Already too many flight instructors are having great hardship in finding students that want to fly more than a few times a month, and not every freight and charter pilot will want to work for an airline. A lot of my friends have their sights set on freight and corporate instead of airlines.... It'll be rather intriguing to see what will happen around this time next year.

Not to mention the difficulty flight instructors have building 50 nm cross country time when we actually do have students. I kinda giggled when I read the section about flight instructors in the pipeline. While it is quite easy to amass 1500 hours total time teaching, cross country time is another story with only 4-5 hours per student that's over 100 students. In the 3 1/2 years I've been teaching I've built over 1600 total, meet all the other ATP mins but only have 245 hours of 50 nm straight line cross country time.... So in the mean time I suppose I will continue to teach stalls, DME arcs and learn to find an airport that is more than 50 miles away because apparently I need 255 more hours to do it correctly or hope that more reasonable heads will prevail before I reach age 65....

Lets be real, there will be no shortage. We are talking about the same government that now allows knives and weapons back on planes. And yes, those items can be used as weapons. Even with the protest from Attendants, Pilots and even the public the government is ok with it.

Now lets take that same thought process and apply it to any impending shortage. As soon as the airlines(regionals) whine to the government about how they are unable to move the public, it'll turn into a monetary issue and viola there will be some kind of amendment to the ATP rule. Problem solved! Sad but true...

That and a continues increase in the age rule so crews can fly until their 100 yrs old

Hi JetDoc! I realize you are flight instructing to build time in which I would suggest you switch to part 135. This will give you the cross country time, ice time, and whatever else you need in a shorter time frame.

Actually, Yes, in the context of "corporate 91" which we were talking about! While I am flying around with a half dozen MEL stickers at any given time, these corporate aircraft are meticulously maintained by some of the best aircraft mechanics in the world! You can literally eat off their Hangar floor! While many 121 carriers are having their maintenance done by the lowest bidder in third world countries! In addition, these aircraft are equipped with the latest and greatest in aviation technology while I'm getting a vector or dealing with a timed out FMS!

I've done both. 121 is SIGNIFICANTLY safer for many reasons. It is very naive and flat out ignorant to say otherwise.
