IMO, things are better today than they were six months ago when the growth slowdown was announced. It's the other stuff too, like a hefty payraise and QOL increases given on April 1 that were done accounting for the budget this year and how much we make and are projected to make.

I honestly don't need any company. My strength comes from my family and god. As long as I have those, I'm always good to go. And besides, what could I possibly need from cheap subcontracted "hired help" at the regional level? They aren't real pilots as the chart has shown.

It wasn't taxed, it was withheld. When you fill out your 2013 taxes it will balance out and as long as you are not in that high of a tax bracket you wil receive some of that money back. But for now feel free to be a proud American and loaning the government money for almost a year at 0% interest.

Now that involves some serious skill. Not flying into Evansville.

I'm only on 2nd year pay and on track to clear $82k. 4 to 6 times higher would mean $410,000 - $492,000. Name one corporate job that pays that much? 3am. Ring ring, ring ring. Hello? It's the boss's daughter. She needs to get to Teterboro now. Oh, isn't Jim on call tonight? He didn't answer, you did. Ugh ok. She likes McDonalds, pick it up on the way. Alright, anything else? Yes, one more thing. The airplane is out of sanitary napkins and it's that time of the month for her.... so fix that problem, hopefully that Walmart is open. Ok, I'll be there in 40 minutes. No, we need you there in 20.

I hope that was tongue and cheek about the 135 night flying shy. After years of CFI in 61/141, one year of night check flying, ten years in the regionals(eight as CA)...the night 135 check flying was by far the hardest decision making times. No one but you dies, no one else but you cares and no one watches your back like another pilot in the cockpit. I literally had a boss with resumes on his desk with a sign that said if you need to cancel your flight for any reason let me know so i can start reading new resumes. At that time it was next to impossible to get twin time and they knew it.

Not to mention flying in northern icy climates at micro sized airports all winter with little or no icing reports, runway conditions or radar coverage. You never knew the last time billy bob plowed the runway or if that coyote, deer, possum racoons....is going to cross the runway in the dark in front of your small plane much less capable of taking the hit than a mainline ac. Or if the mix in your little spray can of deice fluid you just applied yourself is going to work. If you have never done it you will never understand.

Single pilot part 135 IFR was considerably more challenging than anything I've done part 121. The speeds are much faster in a jet, but the decision making skills are much more important single pilot.

Yeah, the risk environment of single pilot 135 is a *different* animal in all aspects-crew, fatigue, aircraft, airports, regs, weather exposure, maintenance, you name it. (I'm not saying every moment of 121 flying is easy, or the responsibility of 121 is not serious.)

I feel sorry for you because judging the amount of time you spend on APF, the rest of your life must not be attractive enough to pull you away. Must suck...all you will ever be is an "Airline Pilot"...not Dad, Husband, Grandfather, friend, etc.

Give APF a break bro and go enjoy life instead of arguing pointless facts that nobody cares about.
I know, right? At least I don't have to fly a RJ anymore so I got that going.

Part 135 single IFR is easy peasy. You're by yourself. All those things you can't do in Part 121 you can easily do here. Got that big booger Bill in the nose? No looking at the other guy to make sure he isn't looking. Just reach in there and put it on the dash. Gotta rip a huge fart? There's no 'testing the waters' for the comfort of the other guy, or holding it in all together. Just let 'er rip. Is your CA a real a-hole and annoying you on a 4-day? No worries, you are your own CA here.

Iced Pilots: Cessna Caravan Emergency due to Icing - YouTube

And iced over spiraling uncontrolled towards the ground declaring mayday mayday? Who cares, get to a lower altitude, throw on the anti-ice, and then continue to destination like nothing happened. This lady shows just how easy this job really is.

Meh, my world turns either way. I'm sure regional guys roll their eyes on the occasion that someone flying bigger equipment condescends to them. (I'm not saying all heavy iron pilots are like that).

It seems many true feelings are spoken in jest. I just don't know where these feelings of superiority come from. I respect pilots of all types-each has their own challenges to meet. I'm not trying to accuse anyone in this particular thread. However, as a small example, it has been discussed on the forums how some pilots of bigger RJs dub themselves to be "better pilots" or mysteriously now "mainline." ???

But, yes, it can be nice to not have to worry about the other guy's personality. Though I will say the single pilot stuff can be kind of lonely or boring!
