They don't want to salary pilots because they want to know exactly how much each block hour will cost in terms of an hourly rate. If we are salaried we will be obligated to 100 hours of block because that would be maximum return on their "investment" of your salary. We will always be hourly because of this relationship.

We're real good at identifying the problems but it takes a little more smarts to identify solutions.

Yes I know people want cheap flights and we're the reason they get them. My question is how do we not have that...anymore. We get paid what we negotiate right? How do we negotiate better or what will help us do so. I can sleep at night if airlines have to raise ticket prices.

Did you read my diatribe?

It isn't about negotiating more. It is about working for a real airline that runs every aspect of your business.

Compare the regionals to the companies that sew clothing in Bangladesh. Label says "Levi's", pants look like Levi's, pants have become what Levi's are. Levi's used to be produced in California. It is much cheaper to pay someone in Bangladesh rice and chickens than American dollars in San Francisco. As long as you work for the company in Bangladesh they will keep getting dollars from Levi's inc and pay you in rice and chickens. But chicken and rice is tasty...

Ha ha. How about making it illegal or a crime to subcontract to another airline and use the same branding so that people will know they are risking their lives. Ha ha nice talking to you Sully.

Yes, but you will also be out of a job.

IMO, the things needed to improve the regionals is never going to happen which is exactly why I decided not to go to one while waiting for the majors to hire. I have too much value in my profession to not work for meager pay and horrible QOL. It bothers me that so many of my pilot colleagues have sold their profession down the river for these types of positions. Sorry to vent, but hope all these low income places end up shutting their doors.

Also - I think 90% may be a little high unless you are just counting the Regional forum. Personalities - what can you do?
I USED to think that to be true.

But read ANY S-CAL vs. S-UAL thread, to a lesser extent some of the SW vs. AirTran threads, or my new favorite, the "who's job sucks worse, UPS of FedEx?".

It's funny to read about how pilots are selling out by working at a regional. Please get off your high horse and understand that for most of us it's the only option at a flying job.

If your opinion is there's nothing that can be done to improve working conditions or pay please keep it to yourself because you are the problem.

If I lose my job because majors take back their flying I won't mind it. Just means I'll probably get called by one sooner.

No high horse here. You tell me any other job that makes you spend the absurd amount of money to get qualified that this profession does only to start out making $20K (before taxes). I just prefer to be compensated accordingly. If I want to make less than $20K I will go to McDonalds or Home Depot and be home every night. I personally do not think someone cooking fries should be compensated the same as someone responsible for getting 50+ people to their destination safely.
