Ideas to improve the regionals.

Oh yes - it has spread in my time on the forum. Agree completely about what you say above and the idiocracy of that particular thread.

True, but there are other good jobs out there if people are willing to move around. I would imagine the regionals used to be a lot better option when upgrades were not 7+ years to get one. I could see people dealing with crappy pay as a FO for 1-2 years, but not 7!

Sorry but you're wrong. There are not enough flying jobs out there that would even make a dent in the regional pilot population. Not to mention most other flying jobs require type ratings and experience.

What would it take to add $5 to each ticket? I don't think $5 extra is a deal breaker (especially considering these regional flights go into airports where there is little to no competition e.g. ORD-SPI or MSN-HIB). You could add $32,000 a year to flight crew pay per year. I figure it as a half full 50-seater (25*$5/3 crew members = $41.66 per leg). Given 4 4-days per month with 16 legs per trip ( avg. 768 legs/year * $41.60 extra per leg = $31,948.80)
You could argue that Burger King could add 5 cents to every whopper and pay their staff a respectable wage, but as long as they can get away with paying minimum wage and still have a stack of applications on file, they will.
Eventually the regionals will run out of qualified applicants and will have to do something like you mentioned to attract more tallent. As it is right now though, there are still enough stary eyed CFI's willing to drop their trousers and bend over, as long as they get to post a picture of themselves on myface sitting in the cockpit of an RJ.

If you didn't have that flying background and that ability to keep current - you might find yourself in a very different situation with regards to your future airline pilot career aspirations without being one of the many regional pilots slogging in out in the trenches hoping for that break.

You are right, there are not enough other jobs out there for every regional pilot, but like every other industry not everyone is cut out for the better/higher end jobs in their industry. Those who are brave and take initiative will get the good jobs or continuing positioning themselves for the good jobs when they come along.

Thank your lucky stars that you came from a background that you come from, have other financial options, a wife that has a good paying job, and the ability to go to the Guard/Reserves to keep up your currency and can wait for that Major to call.

It's funny to read about how pilots are selling out by working at a regional. Please get off your high horse and understand that for most of us it's the only option at a flying job.
If your opinion is there's nothing that can be done to improve working conditions or pay please keep it to yourself because you are the problem.
If I lose my job because majors take back their flying I won't mind it. Just means I'll probably get called by one sooner.

Thanks, it is nice to be able to be patient at this point. I took an offer at XJT, but after my wife talked some since in me I turned them down. She said why would I do that for $23 an hour, never get off reserve, and spend my only days off commuting for the job? I guess parts of the keys to success is marry someone smarter than you are.
Put yourself in this person's shoes: 32 years old, aviation degree, 5000 hours, two types, furloughed, looking for fourth airline job, wife with not great paying job. No majors calling. Applied to 61 pilot jobs and counting with calls from three regionals and one part 135 operation with no pay above $35,000.
Just go McDonald's and wait for a call?
Honestly, what is your advice for that person? Not your advice for yourself.

I know it's illegal to strike but would it be illegal to organize a massive resignment? Say if someone came on here and said let's all quit on Jan 1st unless we get Jazz's pay scale? Would that be illegal?
