It would take a 500 hour pilot about two and a half years to upgrade to capt.
This is not the best place in the world to build time... CFI's are needed much more these days as the airlines are hiring.
And $8/hr..... you gotta be kidding.... at that rate I would be sweating like a prostitute in church to pay bills.

I heard you get a free lunch too...or maybe its just the shyt thats dropping on you from management.
Instructing pays more...what does that tell you.
Let's break it down...they're a small company. No overnights, per diem, etc etc.
8.00/hr x 72 hour guarentee = $576.00 base wage
$576.00> base wage
-144.00> taxes
---------------------
$432.00/month or $108.00/week
$432.00/month X 12 months = $5,184.00/year.
Again.....$8.00/hr...no thank you.

That's a crap salary where the cost of living is low. Hawaii has the highest cost of living in the nation.

I worked with a guy a while back who had worked for Pacific Wings. He quit a few months after being out there. He said that the SIC position is pretty much a fill in wherever they need you job. You will fly right seat, but you will also work dispatch, ramp, etc. Also, the cost of living is so high that he was living with five other guys in a three bedroom place, and they still barely paid the rent...you still have to eat and pay whatever other bills you have. He told me that the captains make more, but they still are well below average. They do hire direct entry captains at times, but at the 1200 hour mark, and by then I am sure that you would have other places in mind that would be a much better environment.
They also used to make you pay for your ride out for the interview and then pay again to get there for training. Something to consider as well.

This can not be stated enough. Had a couple friends go out there both separately who didnt know eachother. Both left within a few months. It is impossible to live off $8/hr in Hawaii, you have to be kidding me. It's like $5+ for a gallon of milk. Don't waste your time u should be able to find a job in the states that pays better and u can get better time.
