To the original poster:
I'm sorry you didn't make your flight and I'm sorry for some of the responses that you received on here. Unfortunately standby status for your flight to interview is more common than most of the posters will have you believe. I have been in this industry for 14 years; I've interviewed at many airlines and have worked at 3. NEVER ONCE was I ever flown to my interview positive space. It was ALWAYS on standby. That being said, if you knew that there were only 2 flights from RSW, I personally would've driven to Miami to have a better chance of getting to the interview and would've told the recruiter to book me that way. I know it doesn't help you but I've driven as far as 275 mi to an airport to get on a flt stdby to my interview. The point of which is, just like commuting in this business you must plan and think ahead to get yourself where you need to be and when. Tuck this into your bag of learning experiences, plan ahead next time and hopefully they will contact you for another opportunity. Good luck with whatever regional you ultimately and up at and enjoy your training! "Welcome Aboard!" |
You already have a class date at one regional set up. Why bother dealing with another regional who runs such a crappy operation that even though they're an airline, can't get you to their interview?

Just curious, how long before the flight did you arrive?

Thanks for the response. I am new to all this so I am guilty of being a little ignorant on how to properly plan. In all fairness, I did not know there were only two flights daily from RSW to DFW, I found that out today. I spoke to the chief pilot today and he did confirm that they are NOT authorized to place applicants on positive space and he apologized. They offered a new interview date for next week but they did inform me that I would be chancing it again as that flight is already looking full one week out. After hearing that, I just respectfully declined the offer to interview and thanked them for the opportunity. I feel lucky and excited to be hired and start class on the 7th!!!

It was an observation I disagreed with.....I was told my airline has ~100 applications on file about a month ago with plans to hire 30/month. Pretty sure this is the case throughout this section of the industry.
Regionals are not filling classes right now.

That's the problem right there. You and many others have become the conduit for a lie. I doubt any turbine part 121 operator has ever had 100 resumes on file. Don't spread misinformation.

I must be MISunderstanding what you meant by the bolded above.
You doubt that ANY P121 turbine operator has ever had 100 resumes on file? So......Delta - a P121 turbine opeartor - has never had 100 resumes on file? Or are you trying to limit the statement to Regionals - of which then you'd say that SkyWest has never had 100 resumes on file either? |
I've been flown positive space to the interviews I did (outside of commercial flying, but still in aviation), except for the government. The taxpayers got a break on that one :) Heck, one even offered to fly me to where I could drive in 2 hrs.

<100 resumes on file? - No way...
... regionals having trouble filling classes with qualified applicants from those resumes on file? - I'd definitely say yes |
XJT positive spaced when I got hired. I had a friend who got standby on RAH for an interview and couldn't make it. Called recruiters and they said they would call him for another date. Never did, even after calling him back.
I believe eagle can't PS you due to the bankruptcy contract. They are probably counting pennies just like RAH. Only difference is, RAH always pinches pennies! |

Here's the full chain of replies, USMCFLYR. You called the wrong dude out. I said I doubted this, and I posted clarification right around when you replied to me. None of these guys will ever have less than 100 applications on file.
Your sentence was unclear to me and I had been following the conversation to the full extent. This is why I stated " I must be MISunderstanding what you meant by the bolded above." I'm glad I misunderstood your post because that contention would have been ludicrous! |
