Default Regionals check applicant's credit rating?

I'm studying for my ATP written right now so that I can apply to a regional and be slightly less poor than I am as a CFI- or at least give myself the illusion "of moving on up" while I continue to live below the poverty line.

My $70,000 loan that I took out for flight training 8 years ago went to collection 3 years ago after they bumped my payments up from the "interest only" amount of $500 up to $700... and I'm wondering if a regional will check my credit rating and not hire me for this reason.

And just for the entertainment value... while I was paying the interest only payments for a year and then paying full payments for a year or less... I paid $24,600 out of my CFI pay (instead of paying rent to my mom) and the amount owned on the loan was reduced by $3,000. Fortunately it is a private loan- not government!

For the record, in the bailout of 2008 Key Bank got 14 million dollars of our tax money...

I wouldn't hire you. Not so much for defaulting, more-so for the attitude that it somehow isn't your fault.

BTW, FWIW my credit was pulled.

I wouldn't hire you, for being a brain washed female dog.

I wouldn't hire either of you, for arguing on the internet.

To the OP: Who cares if they check? Apply to the company you want to work for, if they call and you pass the interview, take the job. Don't worry about what checks they'll do, worry about what they can do for you.

typical APC regional thread right here....

as to the OP, hopefully your investment in your education/career will pay off. Right now, if you have a pulse, and the hours, you can get a job somewhere. Some will be more selective and may question the credit rating...IF...they even spend the time, money and effort to pull it.

just an opinion, but I think they are more worried about the future of their own credit ratings at this point. good luck to you.

Since I do not think that my loan going to collection is not my fault, I found your reply surprising.

So I re-read my post... And I still don't see the attitude you saw in my post.

You must have a problem with my "attitude" of not being happy about the fact that the $24,000 of payments I made over three years reduced my loan amount by only $3,000?

Also, I always answered Key Bank's calls to touch base with them, tell them I was doing everything I could to pay- and that I would pay- and to ask them not to send it to collection. They always told me that there was no indication that it was going to collection. Seems like a good illustration of my bad and irresponsible attitude, no?

I do hope that you had fun posting.

Thanks everyone for all the helpful and positive replies.
There's only one carrier I want to work for because I'm not willing ( and can't afford) to commute to some other city to sit on reserve. I need to be based here where I have SUPER cheap room rental.
So I will try them and see what happens after I get my ATP written done.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Your last sentence in the original post does give the impression that you defaulting isn't that big of a deal. It sounds like we should excuse your$67000 default is meaningless: it isn't, and if asked about it, I suggest you own up to it.I
