What Pilots are really good at
#21
Pilots are good at taking an extremely complex machine into an even more complex and random environment with a combination of skill, rote memory, instinct and sometimes a bit of bravery. They can do this on demand, day or night, rain or snow, good management or bad, and bring the costly bit of hardware and it's cargo safely back to earth in a useable condition.

I'd much rather just buy a ticket if I really have to fly somewhere... (I'll drive 6-7 hours one way though before I even consider flying any more).
We don't really bother with vacations any more... I'm home enough that I don't need to get away to destress, and since I can take my wife on a trip or two a year to a resort destination for a few nights, she doesn't have the need to get away all that much either.
Even if we did need to get away, the points that I accrue on the AMEX and hotel points more than pays for roundtrip 1st or business class airfare and a week hotel stay at a full-service Hilton somewhere...

Oh and to answer your question- yes. There are a FEW select corporate pilots that get travel benefits on a very small number of airlines. These guys work for corporate flight departments that have established part 135 certificates (for whatever reason). They can usually only travel on carriers that have "open" 135 jumpseat agreements (I believe that Chautauqua is one of those carriers that allows any 135 pilot to jumpseat in the back). No CASS agreements for anybody outside of the 121 world.

ok at the sake of offending the lowest common denominator, i wont make any more facetious comments.
different strokes for different folks, for me all the fun is in the travel, but if you dont value it then it makes sense for you to love what you do.

Did you watch Top Gun just before getting on the forum? Favorite part: "a combination of skill, rote memory, instinct and sometimes a bit of bravery" ..The off-duty captain enters the cockpit with his aviators and red cape...averting total disaster by selecting alt mode.

My thoughts exactly. We are a bunch of trained apes, not superheroes! Bet the leather jacket with epaulets and the Ray-Bans are used heavily here. Sunglasses indoors.
Just go to the F-Concourse in ORD if you wanna see these things!
