Not even an email from a major.

What exactly am I doing wrong again?
Some of us had our application in to [insert major airline here] before you got your wings......still no call.

I finally got my call after I had given up on getting a job with a major.

Were you an intern? Or who did you know?

The so called "affirmative action" hires are exceedingly few and far between.
Depends on what years you are talking about.

Well, given how 95% of the cockpits out there for 121 consist of two old white males, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's pretty rare. Otherwise, there'd be diversity. Rare means "has probably happened", but not significant and didn't keep you out of the cockpit.

My old part 91 job, we had the AA nazis all over us, because, surprise, surprise, surprise, a small oil company was 99% dudes if you didn't count secretaries.

We didn't hire unqualified women, but women with published mins would get hired (500, 50ME) where guys normally had to have 1500+ and some King Air time to get hired.

Not 121, but part 91, in 2011.

I'd love to hear more about these "AA Nazis" being "all over you." Who, exactly, were these strong-armed regulators, and how did they go about enforcing their will on your company? Did you actually have firsthand experience in managing this process, or are your stories a product of hearsay? Just curious about what was really going on.

Little prick. . He's got some coffee/ice/papers he needed to get for a few years first.

I was the hiring manager at that company for engineering after the flight department shut down.

We were getting notices of noncompliance from the Department of Labor. Where do you think all that data they ask about age, sex, race, ethnic groups at new hire training goes.

We had a dedicated affirmative action manager at corporate headquarters in Houston.

If your company hires 90% males, you need to more or less hire every qualified woman who applies and wants the job.

We hired two women pilots with barely stated requirements and none of the not required but desired qualifications such as turbine time, ATP, King Air time, etc.

Meanwhile a guy wouldn't get a call unless he had 1500+ hours and an ATP and time in type.

I was hired without an ATP, but also had aviation management experience that was a desired qualification. I had 4x the stated minimums and I still needed a couple of the desired qualifications to get a call.

He was furloughed for about 3 years or so in the 70s but other than that has had a great career. That's 35 yrs of service already and he still has another ~8 yrs left. He'll retire at 65 after having been at United for 43 years!
Why's he staying till 65? 3 ex-wifes, 7 kids, and how he's living in motel 6?
perhaps he enjoys his one trip a month scheduled on days he wants around his six weeks of vacay .

Guarantee his work experience is not the same as yours.
