I got half way through it and just didn't want to waste my time any further. They're just spinning their wheels to make it look like they're doing something. If McDonald's and Walmart held a seminar complaining about how they were having difficulty finding entry level employees, we'd all roll our eyes and say, "Duh, you pay crap wages."

It looks like a similar seminar, except McDonald's and Walmart could not even be bothered to show up to comment. The same eye rolling from me and oh yeah, "Duh, you pay crap wages."

If McDonald's and Walmart had trouble finding entry level employees- that would be a problem. A temporary solution would be to raise wages, but when the unemployment rate is low enough that those companies have problem finding employees, I don't tknow what the solution would be.

Regionals on the other hand need to raise wages or pay people to become pilots. Its that simple.

Regionals will just fold rather than sponsor bodies to fill seats. But it's a deeper issue than just a lack of pilots. The regional system is unsustainable anymore. Eventually all the flying will go back to mainline again. 5 to 10 years.

Agreed. The regionals are finished. It's too late to save it. Once the mainlines suck everyone up, they'll shrink to the previous sizes. Most of the regionals won't be around in the next 5 years. There's no point in wasting the money

No, individuals need to tell their employers what they're worth through their actions instead of taking positions that pay below what they're worth--in any job. The industry pays low wages and we pilots encouraged this by accepting and maintaining employment.

True statement. That may already be happening though.

The RAA folks love to get together regularly and whine about how the "regionals" can't hire enough pilots, despite the clear abundance of legally qualified pilots. They refuse to acknowledge the obvious solution: Raise the pay; it's all about the money. Supply and demand. It's basic economics.

My favorite was the suggestion at the end of the video from the JB pilot: "We need to lower the expectations for this career. That will attract more applicants."

Its funny people keep saying that, yet we have yet to see any results...

Not sure what results you are looking for, but the regional sector is shrinking every month and every regional wants to hire more then they currently are.

Welp, that was 1:18:48 of my life I'm not getting back...

What was the point of that panel's discussion anyway? The lead boasts about how "we" can come up with solutions yet in 1:18:48, there was none to be had.
