I would like to work at United. That's my final goal. I wouldn't complain about a former employer, I can make something up. I have about 400 TPIC. I'm a commuter, I own a home and have no intentions of leaving said home. Just a one hop commute
The United head of hiring was on a webinar yesterday highly discouraging a lateral move. |

I agree with you! That's just what he said. And that's only UAL. I've heard that AAL looks for career progression. So a lateral move may look good to AA.
I'm a FOever FO and have thought about a lateral move many times. I just thought it was an interesting comment and worth sharing. But ultimately, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. It seems like with some of these airlines, you needed to come out of the womb working on taking the right steps to getting hired. A major airline job is an excellent career, but I'm not going to waste years of my life with tunnel vision focused on a major, while the rest of my life passes by. |

Tuesday evening response was it is "discouraged", not recommended and don't disrupt your family for it basically.
However, same discussion mentione PIC time is important, but don't chase it!! I guess it's left to individual interpretation... |

I've put a lot of thought towards those two. Envoy would be my preference
Edit: I'll also add one of my Envoy friends has been on reserve over two years now. I got a line two months after IOE. |

On the united webinar the other day, one of the FAQs was about lateral moves. They said they don't recommend it. I forget how he worded it, but he said in a way that it showed poor decision making because you were disrupting you and your family's life. Also, they generally don't work out well. (Chasing the PIC time that is) I'm sure it's not something that'll ultimately disqualify you from UAL, but something to think about. Keep in mind, though, the FAQ was mostly geared toward people chasing the left seat. Your situation seems a bit different.

I am a 4 year FO at Envoy, feel free to PM me with questions. I will tell you the good bad and the ugly of coming here.

From date of hire, you could be Houston based in 4 months. Most junior Houston pilot at Skywest is a 23 Feb hire. Date of hire would be considered your first day of Indoc.
Out of the 14 bases at Skywest, IAH is probably #5 most junior on the CRJ. Thanks for the insight. That'll make the decision that much easier. How are reserve times? |

LOL! So someone disconnected from the reality of what regional pilots face says that what you are doing is disrupting your family? Tell that to a Comair guy who stuck out to the last day. Or the thousand+ Envoy/Endeavor guys that have left and many with lateral moves.
