All this advice is great...but the only one you should tell your student is "GET A LAWYER". I also hear gojet hired someone w/2 DWIs...so thats always a great option........

Sir,
Sorry if I came off harsh.
I come from an EXTREMELY conservative family. Alcohol was always shunned. Went to college and graduated in four years, I had several opportunities to drink, but turned them all down. I was always the designated driver
To this day, I have never even tasted beer/alcohol/rum/wine/etc.... and this is all by pure choice.

have you ever tested to find out how much it takes to get to .08BAC?
my wife's coworker (she's a prosecutor) did what is called a wet lab where you basically drink and blow into a Breathalizer every hour or so. it took him over 14 beers to reach the .08BAC. he knew far before he reached the legal limit that he should be nowhere near a moving vehicle.
are you saying that you can drink a 12-pack in short order and still be good to drive a vehicle, or control something in 3 dimensions that's moving 320kts?
it's people like you that make responsible drinkers shake their heads in shame.

I am a responsible drinker, I don't break the law, but I consider the law a bit draconian. I think I can express my opinion on that, right?
What I was saying, was that it ought to be legal to have 2-3 beers over several hours and drive home. My level of impairment at that point would be far less than the stupidity-induced impairment of the average driver on the road today.

Oh, RickAir, are you referring to the "sober chick applying make-up, talking on her cell phone, weaving in and out of traffic, etc.?" It must be tough to be God's gift to BOTH aviation AND driving.

When I drive, I drive...giving it my undivided attention. Sorry if it's not PC to say, but distracted women seem to be the primary road hazard here in SOCAL. Not because they are women, but because they are doing EVERYTHING BUT DRIVING when they should be DRIVING. One of them even rear ended me last month...yes she was on her phone.
