The worse thing about that is crew scheduling will call you with a tone of "Yay! Double deadhead! You get to fly! Yay!"

You've got to be kidding me.

What airline are you flying for? Feel free to PM me if thats easier. My goal is to get a base in PHL once I have my ratings and 1500, and work as few days/possible at first. The first few years I need to make money on the side to afford bills. I don't mind flying a dash8 or smaller jet (awac/pdt).

It's very rare to break guarantee on reserve. I get called 2-3 times a month to fly and 9-10 times a month for airport reserve. 11 days off to fly maybe 10-15 hours, but if I had a line 15 off to fly 85 hours.

Be careful of that base 2 hours away. Most regionals have 1.5-2 hour call out. If you are 2 hours away, that means you will literally have to be ready to go immediately, in uniform with bags in the car, when the phone rings. That, IMO, would be worse than a commute.

At my regional, there really is no difference between reserve and line holders since most line holders only get 12 days off. But other places being a line holder can also mean more days off.

Who do you work for, Envoy?

I only sat unused twice for the few months I was on reserve at RAH. Made it much easier as a commuter with the cost of hotels(or lackthereof). Most FO's on reserve are crediting 90-100+hrs/month. A lot of work but a nice chunk of $$$ in return.
