Default Off duty flying

My airline just came out with a notice prohibiting off duty flying for any other commercial operator. In the past it was never an issue as long as it did not interfere with our 121 flying times. We just submitted our off duty flight times to the company so they could keep track.

Im curious if any other airlines have this same restriction

??? Why did we do this? I wonder what driver was... (It's not like we've ever gotten near 1000hrs a year.)

Im not the most up to date on 117, but I don't think any part 91 flying counts toward the 1000hrs a year. As long as we are 'fit to fly', we should be able to do any outside flying we want.

Typically, flying for a "commercial operator" would be for hire, right? I think it boils down to flying for hire, or just flying.

Under the old rules, any commercial flying counted. Under 117 it's just 121 (and 135?).

SKW actually removed the old restriction not too long ago. Basically you can't do outside 121 work, but can do all the 91 (including CFI) that you like. Obviously you can't be fatigued due to moonlighting but that should be inherently obvious.

My position was if they don't want me to fly outside their certificate, they should pay a wage that doesn't make me have to.
