So what does this Q400 thing mean for XJT

I was just talking about this subject tonight with my FO as we soared over the wonderful Staten Island....What flying will we get? Definitely the shorter routes, and it will probably be much like it is in IAH - both SAABS and RJ's serve some of the same routes. We'll have to bring this subject up again around 01/2008! - BCD

SAAB-
Honestly I started here in early 2005, things were great. Just CAL and COEX. End of 2005 came around and BAM we get the 69 planes BOMB. I was having the same concerns as you. However since 2005 i have over 1000 people below me. Attrition is crazy as you know and will continue. By the time CAL can yank more planes you will have moved way up the list and have upgraded by that time. I wont say dont be concerned and but dont stick you head in the sand either. I believe it will all work out in the end. XJET is a great company and should continue to be a great company. Enjoy the ride and hope for the best. I highly suggest on not playing the "Chase the upgrade game" You have your chair, IF the music stops you still have your Chair at a Fantastic company. Just my 2 pennies worth.

I too am scared to death of what the future may hold for me at XJT. In the back of my mind is a little voice telling me to jump ship while time is on my side. Then a louder voice tells me to ride it out here. I really like the company, and the pilot group is great. But the future for us is very shaky. That's the nature of this industry though. Who knows, we very well may be just fine. As for me, I'm going to ride it out and see what happens. If all else fails, I at least hope we can keep it together until I've gotten a couple years pic 121 under my belt so I have options. Man what I wouldn't pay for a crystal ball right now!!!!

Well obviosuly SAABaroowski you must have got turned down for upgrade or screwed up in some other way at Colgan, because Colgan is not like you make it out to be.
Perhaps if you also did your homework (perhaps this is why you failed your upgrade) you would know based on press releases that Colgan will be flying out of EWR. Furthermore, a lot of people are very pleased that the Q is coming and there is a lot of people that will want to come to work for Colgan. Contrary to what you think of Colgan's pay rates, which you make sound like we are living out of a box, they are not that far off industry standards. In fact, if you look at payrates for Mesaba, who is union, they are only a couple of dollars difference for CA and there are no union dues. I will agree that FO pay is sub par, but upgrade time is much faster through Colgan than any other regional.
So get over your obsession with Colgan bashing and good look with your career. Actually, sounds more like jealousy because we will be flying brandnew 20 million dollar aircraft that will be the envy of regional carriers.

P.S. Cute name "Q man" hahahhaha, also Colgan upgrade isnt the fastest, and that really isnt worth going to COlgan becuase there are thousands of qualified pilots with PIC time that is way more valuable than doing out & backs to the same three airports in a SAAB
