With the new contract, pay is on par with everyone else. Things really aren't as bad here as everyone says. Most of the horror stories you hear on this website happened in years past, things are better now. The crews are good, hotels are the same that everyone else stays at. My only real complaint is that the planes are sort of maintenance hogs, but it's not that big of a deal.

Lets start with the obvious, Gojet has been around for 11 years and is hiring captains off of the street. They are not expanding requiring an increase in pilots. Isn't it obvious that there has to be a big big problem here? Do you want your career to be affected by the problem? Is that upgrade 6 months earlier really worth destroying your chances of ever getting to a major and spending the rest of your career flying for a regional or other of the less desirable carriers? Some may make it through unharmed but many do not. And when Gojet screws someone over do you think they put out an announcement? The person is gone and no longer seen or heard from again. You may not even notice they are gone and may never know why. They-call-me-Red is comparing turds with apples. They may be the same size and they may both be picked up and carried in baggies after they fall but they are not the same.
Therefore, I must respectfully disagree with Red. Lets start with his "Pay is on par with everyone else" - Only the rate, which means little because you get so much less credit. A 4 day trip at skywest would pay a minimum of 16.8 hours but the same trip would pay a minimum of 8 hours at Gojet. At 80 an hour that would be a difference of $708 for the 4 day trip. A standup from 8pm to 8am, 4 hours of pay at Gojet and 6 at Skywest. There goes another quick $160. A gojet pilot flying from Denver to Chicago would make 120 while the Skywest pilot would get $240. There goes $120 while you sit.
Same hotels, sometimes but not always. G7 might put you in a nice Holiday Inn where they get a good price because the elevators don't work. Third floor is a long way to drag your bags.
"Not as bad as EVERYONE says." You need to get out of the office Red. I recommend that you trust EVERYONE when it comes to your career. "Most of the horror stories are from years past", yes Red, but they are still happening.
The planes are "maintenance hogs". When planes break the best thing to do is to fix them. The wrong thing to do is to adjust something that will not fix the problem and then call it fixed only to have the problem on a later flight. Tends to make the airplane a "maintenance hog". Why are the same planes not the maintenance hogs at the other airlines?
"Most of the horror stories you hear on this website happened in years past, things are better now." They are still going on, just not to Red. Red is able to just look the other way and tell himself that the guy must have deserved it. They are happening today and they will continue tomorrow.
When an alligator eats one of your kids he may sit an sleep for a while. He may look peaceful and content. You should not let your other kids now play with the alligator just because the alligator says he has learned to be nicer because nobody wants to play with him anymore. When he gets hungry he will eat another one of your kids.
Go Gators! (Isn't it creative how I worked that in!)
