Actually, he knows a lot about aviation and was probably a CFI at one time or another.

Based on his posting history, Skyhigh's only goal at APC is to stop as many of you as possible from persuing the career. A career that he feels failed him. Whether there is any truth to his posts is irrelevant to him....he just wants you to read his stuff.

Sometimes he comes up with something at APC that is worth reading. This thread just isn't it...

Sometimes I say "newbie, read Skyhigh cause this is the worst that can happen to you and you should be aware of it". There IS value in that. As far as this thread goes, though, he's way off base.
Pilots sweep a lot of ugliness about aviation under the rug in order to prop up what is really a poor overall career choice. My only goal is to prevent the continued spread of misinformation that comes from the denial psychosis of self deluded pilots. (present company excluded)

My aim is to drag all the unattractive points about an aviation life out into the light for all to see. Everyone deserves the full and whole story.

Dude, get a grip you are rediculous with the rants, worse than myself. You bash the airline industry non-stop, yet all you do when you are online is post on AIRLINPILOT CENTRAL.COM. With every post you make it obvious that you seem to regret leaving the industry. If you were so content with life I doubt you would be on here ranting and raving how terrible this industry is, after all............."Misery loves company", go Bi*ch & moan on another website, Even I, "The great SAABAROOWSKI" am tired of your negative comments.

The truth isn't always pretty.

Honestly I don't miss the job or flying all that much. I do however miss the dream that all pilots are well treated and appreciated by their employers, and that every pilot who tries hard and applies great efforts into mastering his craft will be recognised and rewarded for those efforts.

My biggest regret is that I ever started flying in the first place.

"The truth isn't always pretty"

That would be your truth....

I started flying about the same time as you, in the same part of the country, same goals. How I ended up couldn't be more opposite from how you ended up. It's not my fault, it's not yours. It just happened.

I think it's good people hear your story. Unfortunately, you go beyond that to the point of intentional disinformation (my opinion) about the industry to push your agenda. That does a disservice to APC.

Very true that people need the full story. I think a lot of people "prop it up," as you say, because they know that they are not qualified to do anything else.

Some people take the route of CFI not because they have to but because they chose to. That will always be respected and rewareded sooner or later. I'll admit I'm from a fortunate family. I could have paid 30-60K to one of these places to "buy" my job. However, there is certain self satifaction in actually earning what you receive. There will always be CFIs. Even higher time and experienced ones because sometimes taking the path most traveled feels much better than the one that's quick and easy.

I see it like a doctor. They all have to go through the long process of being an intern ect. before they make it somewhere. Would you really trust someone with your kid that found a way to buy themselves out of that learning exp?

I am sure that from your perspective of gainful employment at one of the last two companies where the good old days are still alive that aviation seems like a fair and good place to invest ones self.

Things are very different from most others vantage point. I am not the only one here who shares the same opinions and experiences. The only difference with me is that I point out of every unfortunate detail and draw attention and focus to the negatives while others down play and let things get swept under the carpet.

You are the exception here. My experiences are closer to the average. How can you profess to be doing anything other than sending young hopefuls to a tragic future?

It isn't a coincidence that most of the gushy "aviation is great" posts on APC come from pilots who work for one the two golden cargo companies. It is like a super ball lottery winners wondering why everyone else is so down on gambling.

You may know a different side of aviation and can not understand where my opinions come from however that doesnt make them untrue.

HMMM, so much doom and gloom from you sky high, putting claim that this is the norm for the industry yet you are still the only one selling the story. I think you need to come out from under the carpet and realize you have made a picture in your head that is only in your head. Yeah this industry, like all others, have good and bad, but like all other industries the good is out weighing the bad, maybe not in lavish pay and more days off but aviation is not about pay and days off either. Well at least not for me.

I can not help those who are intentionally on a self destructive path. There are those however who are not interested in poverty, loss or setbacks.

The current generation of pilots are short sightedly proceeding into a career field that currently offers greatly discounted prospects than when my generation started out.

My intentions have always been to create a better life for myself and my family. Aviation is an unusually bad choice.
