I just started with ExpressJet (ASA side) and they send anyone without a written completed to Houston (paid). I finished CTP on a Tuesday evening and was in class the next Monday morning. We have more Captains than first officers currently, so they are looking for new hires. With the new contract extension, pay is pretty good and benefits are good as well.

My question is, does that lengthen the training period for pilots needing the R-ATP as opposed to pilots coming in with non-expired writtens (or who already have the ATP)? By how long and what would the impact be?
The AC for the CTP, 61-138, says an ATP CTP has to be 30 classroom hours and 10 hours in sims. So about a week. 121.410 says if an airline runs its own CTP it has to be separate from the airline's basic indoc class. Normally indoc is 40 hours. So another week. There is a provision if the airline teaches its own CTP the indoc class can be reduced. So if the airline sends new hires to a generic CTP it'll be at least another week. If the airline runs the CTP inhouse they could reduce indoc but then they would have to run two separate class, one for ATP holders and one for those going through their CTP. I don't know if any of the airlines with an inhouse program are doing this.

Thanks. So, I have the ATP knowledge complete, but I need to have the checkride done by 7/31. That's the problem. If typical training takes 3 months, I'd be OK if I started class end of April or beginning of May. If I don't get into class until later, I could blow that 7/31 deadline. So I'm wondering what the airline would do in that case. This might be a question to ask a recruiter?

Envoy's cut-off class for those with an ATP written that expire July 2016 and thus not requiring the ATP-CTP is May 9th. If you enter class after that, expect to be placed in the ATP-CTP for you to take the ATP written again. The ATP-CTP class is contracted out to CAE in DFW, is one week long and usually begins two weeks prior to your class start date (you'll have one week off in between the ATP-CTP and new hire class to take the written). For Envoy, you'll be asked to commit to 2 years if you take the company-sponsored ATP-CTP and/or if you take any sign on bonus.

Other regionals' mileage may vary.

I have searched, but it seems to be changing. What regionals do not require any training agreement for taking the ATP-CTP course?

I believe ExpressJet does not have contract. Anybody know about Endeavor?

Not that I'd plan on taking off in a short period of time after getting hired, but the more flexibility the better.

Some have ATP-CTP already integrated into their training program. In that case, they may be more likely to not require some kind of commitment.

Best thing to do is get on the horn and ask!

Talking to someone who was hired with Endeavor and needed the CTP he told me it was a 1 year commitment.

Default ATP-CTP Course vs ATP Written Exam

One small note for everyone to remember: The ATP-CTP course does NOT prepare you for the ATP exam. The ATP-CTP course gives you permission to take the ATP exam. The material covered in ATP-CTP is not the material that the ATP exam tests.

So if you do get sent to an ATP-CTP class, make sure you're studying the ATP test material as well so you can pass the test.

Very good point. Thank you!

What exactly does it cover then?
