I'd take the fly 17 hrs a month, get paid for 75... vs. fly 76 and paid for 76.To each his own I guess.
You only make these statements because you are not bored out of your mind on reserve. I have only flown 5 legs this year... and only have 135 hours in the airplane since my date of hire in June.

I would gladly fly on reserve rather than sitting... it's not even reserve that sucks it's the fact that I literally never fly.

Your assumption is wrong... we both work at the same company and I was hired 1 month after you, so we're pretty much in the same situation... I just live in base and don't commute.

I actually started reserve in September and was just awarded another reserve line for March... that is 7 months including 2 months of ready reserve!!!!
This is a prime example of not doing your homework on where to work. Too many of you out there are taking the first job that comes your way. It's the same story on a different day. Should I go to ComAir or Trans States, AWAC or Pinnacle, MESA or GoJets, et el.

I have a friend who was hired at a regional a few weeks prior to your Hire Date at AWAC and she has flown over 500 hrs in the CRJ 200/700, is 50% of the way up on the FO seniority list, and she might have the opportunity to upgrade by the end of this year.

If you apply and work diligently toward earning employment at your "FIRST" choice Airline then logic says you should be happy there (Because you did your research . ..remember) whether reserve or flying the line. Doing your homework pays off.

If you're that bored on reserve, get a second job. Then you can be earning your guarantee AND have side income. Go sell homes or mortgages or cars or something. Or get yourself an XBOX or PS3

First... you have no idea why I work here or if it was my first choice.

When I got on here upgrades were 2.5 years and dropping. I was told by guys here to expect less than 3 months of reseve... trust me, I did my homework. If you know what you are talking about (and that assumption still stands) at all I expect that you know that the industry/company can change over night.

I am glad to be here... I don't mind having the best cotract in the industry at all... This thread was simply started to hear about what reserve was like at other airlines... so don't talk down to me. Let it be known that if I had it to do over again and had to pick a regional airline I would still choose AWAC.

HOLY PANCAKES BAT MAN!!! Something sensible coming out of Ellen!!!

Seriously though, I had a bunch of friends who got hired before I did at various places who are now jumping ship to SkyWest and XJT. So now, after a year at Airline X they move laterally and are 6 mos and 200 numbers under the guy who waited 6 mos to get hired at SkyWest or XJT in the first place. Funny how that works.

I'm in the same boat as groon.... if I could go back and do it all over, I would've been in limbo between AWAC and XJT. Was hired at both, came to AWAC and would do the same thing again. I'm not a fan of IAH/EWR/CLE. Movement here is not as much as other airlines, but we have lost 30 people in 2007 so far. Out of an 820 person pilot group that is 3.65% of our pilots. Most of them senior to me We are just fat on FO's and CA's as it is. Friends in PHL fly almost every day, in ORF... we don't fly.

Things will pick up, new hire classes confirmed.... we are a little overstaffed right now, but like someone above said... it could all change overnight. Three years ago XJT probably didn't see CAL farming out their flying... AWAC thought it was in a 10+ year deal with United, and I don't think anyone really saw the 146's being parked... Comair was the place to be in terms of $$$ and QOL.... Skywest was a small airline out west that wasn't even really on the map yet.

A lot can happen between now and Jan 1, 2008. IMO, you probably shouldn't criticize why someone chose the place they did. Based on the above description it sounds like Mesa...maybe SkyW......but, I would rather be selling cars than working at Mesa.

Have to fly to the same standards as you... FYI before you spout off again... last month with one extra trip out of open time I picked up 16 hours of pay+75=91 hours. ACTUALLY flew ~30..... nice try there buddy I wonder how you fly going from your C-172 to your ERJ.
