Good idea on calling. I just confirmed the Dallas ATP-CTP school DOES provide the Sheppard prep once you're in their system.

The ATP checkride? Not at the end of the CTP sim sessions which is 16 hours worth. It will happen in conjunction with your Type rating ride which is at the culmination of your training. There is no pass/fail with the CTP sim sessions, there are certain things the instructor needs to show you but that is about it. It was a no pressure type of environment (unlike when you get to SIMs in training, lots of pressure).

Keep in mind that while you are in CTP and Republic is paying for it, you are not an employee of Republic and it is not a part of your Republic oriented training. That starts day 1 of INDOC where you will get your seniority number. This is why in the contract if you wash out of training or leave Republic before the end of it, you will owe Republic back the cost of the CTP course.

The CJO from Republic mentions that the IRS will tax the value of the ATP training since we aren't employees yet, but they also mention there are some tax strategies to minimize tax liability. Has anyone figured out how to do this the right (legal but tax-minimizing) way?

It used to be education required "to meet the minimum educational require- ments to qualify you in your trade or business" was not deductible. However education that "maintains or improves skills required in your present work" was deductible. So if you were making your living as a pilot getting an ATP could be considered deductible. However all that went out the window with Trump's tax reform. So I would say Republic needs to update their information. But what do I know, I'm just a line pilot, not a CPA.

Can you count the CTP sim time towards the 50hrs multi time required for an ATP?

Thanks!

Buy it and sheppard air will most likely refund you the money once your on the ATP-CTS list. I got my money back. Took me about 3 week to follow it. Don't goto the course without starting you will not do good. Get a head start and pay the money

I was just wondering if they’d consider letting me pay and then refunding if I got enrolled this week. I’m getting a bit impatient to get started and even though I’ve been studying the ASA bank, there’s so many questions in that one it’s really not very good as a test prep.
