ATP CTP for Republic
Looking at applying to the Regionals. I'm still trying to get my career going.
Can anyone share what to expect from your ATP CTP course?
Would I have to pay myself?
How are the ATP CTP courses set up?
How are the Instructors? Are they Republic pilots or are they young CFI's ?
Do they help with the ATP written ? Was it beneficial or do you recommend going anywhere and doing the written first before applying to Republic?
Thank you in advance.

THE CTP COURSE DOES NOT PREPARE YOU FOR THE WRITTEN. This is the second thread created today on the subject and not sure where this misinformation comes from. The CTP course is a federally mandated course created after the Colgan accident and its main purpose is to teach CRM and risk management. You will also learn some of the stuff that is on the ATP like high speed aerodynamics etc., but you will need to get yourself a test prep program like Sheppard Air to help you study. Due to the large number of questions (well north of 1000), give yourself 3 weeks or so before the start of CTP to start studying.
The cool thing about Republic is that if you do CTP in house, you will be sent to the ERJ170 SIMS for the SIM portion. This was a huge help once I started training at Republic because I already had 16 hours of experience in the aircraft.
At the end of your CTP, Republic will get a testing slot for you and pay for your exam. It is usually scheduled two days after your last CTP SIM session.

Spot on about the ATP-CTP. The only way the written is related to the course is that the CTP has to be done first in order to take the test. Pay for the study material for the test from Sheppard. Totally worth it!

Is the Sheppard course provided by the Dallas ATP-CTP? I tried to sign up with Sheppard today for my course in a couple of weeks and they said to make sure the course doesn't provide it to us, since apparently they think the Dallas-based course does. I don't mind paying for it but don't want to throw money away either.

If you follow Sheppard Air's study style, which would be the only reason to get Sheppard Air because there are much better programs out there if you really want to learn the how and why of each question, then you will at the minimum run through each question 3 times. More for questions you have trouble on. If memory serves there were close to 1300 questions. That means at a min you will see 3900 questions that you will have to answer. If you think you can do that in 10 days, then more power to you man.

I’ve got about 40 hours into the ASA prep already, but I appreciate Sheppard’s focus down to the most likely questions for a top-off study and “warm fuzzy” on being fully prepared to ace the test. I just wanted to know if the ATP-CTP course makes it available once you’re confirmed before I waste money to get it one or two days earlier than I would have for free.
If someone could tell me whether it’s provided prior to the course or not I’d appreciate it. If not, no big deal and I’ll get it today.

I did CTP in Indy, but a couple guys in my INDOC class took it in Dallas. They did not mention at all that they got Sheppard Air for free when taking that course despite us talking extensively about our differing experiences in CTP. Have you considered calling them?
