Left for an ACMI, thinking of coming back

It also has to be considered moving up, not a side-step. i.e., you can't leave to take a job at Trans States and then ask to come back and keep your seniority because they close down. Same goes for other Regionals, foreign airlines, and I believe Part 91/135 too. You are welcome to reapply, but you lose your seniority.

Only a handful of ACMI are destination airlines like Kalitta, Omni & ATI. The rest are just a step up from regionals with the exception of ABX, Atlas & Southern which are currently better off staying at the regional.
if you’ve got over a year at a regional, you’re very marketable at any of the decent LCC’s or the better ACMI’s.

As the title states I left RPA for an ACMI. I thought my family and I could handle the schedule but unfortunately it has not worked out that way. I have apps out everywhere but no bites. When I left, I lived in base as a RSV CA, I would be able to hold a line now. I also satisfy all requirements of the CBA for a potential rehire.
Anyone else ever been in this position or know of people that have come back from the ACMI world? Would I be making a mistake?
Thanks for any input.

I believe on the HR side of it, you still have to meet the current requirements that any new hire would have to meet and we have the highest standards right now out of any Regional. Training history may also be included in that, but I’m not 100% sure of that. You also have to leave the proper way, as in giving a 2 week notice, returning everything your supposed to etc.

not sure when, how or where you played, but things have changed significantly. Any Legacy is the best choice. Any LCC that you live in Base would be a better choice too. If you’re living someplace having to commute to an ULCC then the better ACMI’s are a good choice. Neither is better, just different. Plenty of folks perfectly happy making their careers at the LCC’s and better ACMI’s..... and that’s what it’s all about after all, being happy.

I’ve been at one of the “better” ACMIs for about 7 months now. I am ok here, I enjoy the flying and the paycheck but would I say I was happier living 10 min from base as a CA, yes I would. But the wife and kids are definitely not happy. The thinking was that flying a heavy around the world for a while would give me a better shot at the legacies and if I were to get stuck would I rather be here or at a regional. It’s definitely a good company and I knew what I was getting into, just thought that the family could handle it too.
