We are literally in the middle of contract negotiations. We set the industry standard in 2015, and we’re about to do it again. And I hope you don’t so much as sniff an email from a recruiter.

By the way, this is happening for a tiny, tiny percentage of CFIs, who make pennies on the dollar compared to CFIs at other flight schools, and it is only an interview. There is no promise of a job.

This is just eye candy negotiated by those flight schools to continue to be able to pay their CFIs $12 per flight hour.

But I’m…………. sure you already ………………………knew that……….

Spirit/Frontier/Jet Blue/United/Delta/FedEx lowering hiring “required” times is the BEST THING that could happen while in contract negotiations. Only time will tell. CommutAir just went to 53/hr or like 7/hr more than RPA. Question is does Mesa, Endeavor, SkyWest, or Republic set the bar or stay at the bottom for year 1 F/O pay? Let alone raising CPT pay to Majors F/O year 3-5 pay. No CPT’s = No planes moving.

Anybody, and I mean anybody, using year one FO pay as the primary (or even heavily factored) basis for their decision on who to work for has absolutely zero business flying jets - much less with people in the back.

You sounds like management. Year 1 pay is what you get and live off of. By the time you hit year two, you could be the next TSA/Compass/ExpressJet.

No, I am a year 1 FO.

I’ll let you figure how why TSA, Compass, and ExpressJet are horrible comparisons to Republic.

Again I’ll reiterate, anyone using a regional airline’s year one pay as a basis for selection is not someone I particularly care to share a cockpit with.

How do these contracts work (timeline-wise). I understand the union and airline are in negotiations, but is there a deadline for that to be completed before the existing contract runs out?

No. Under the Railway Labor Act these contracts become amenable - they never "expire" like some people insinuate.
