But yes, I would think a DEC would forever be on reserve until he/she gets to their destination airline.
For those that live very near a base, reserve isn't such a bad thing.

Seniority means nothing on reserve at Republic unlike most other airlines. You can only proffer to fly first not fly last and the bucket system make sure the reserves are used and abused however scheduling sees fit. Obviously the FO side is different at the moment since we have hundreds of FOs sitting around not flying

Do you all have the option to drop reserve days? Is the grid ever green in CMH on the captain’s side?

Yes, CA grid is typically red.

I spent a lot of my reserve time at EWR and live about an hour away, it was awesome! (although we were used a lot more back then)

Chuck a suitcase and uniform in the car and just go about my business everyday.

Gotcha. Thanks for the answer. I am assuming that junior captains on reserve in CMH are being used quite a bit right now?

I'm an FO but my impression is that all captains are being used quite a bit. It's newer FOs who are sitting. Nearly all of my trips end up with a different CA than originally scheduled for some reason or other. Last market podcast had CMH as 3-4 years to hold a line as a CA. (Only 5 months for an FO)

You missed the point. Living in base vs commuting makes it a completely different job. Even reserve living in base is better than commuting.
