First one out - last one in. That's the bottom line with outstation basing. But on the positive side, RAH opens and closes bases so often, a JAX base could happen for afew months.

Imagine the worst commuting option... That's about right.

Just got the job offer a couple of weeks ago from Republic. They didn't offer a base or equipment, but simply asked about my preferences. I told them I wanted Denver because I will be commuting from SFO. Their response was we will get back to you. I would like some advice on whether to hold out or should I just take whatever. I can't wait too long as I have been out of the cockpit about five months. Thoughts? Thanks!

You might get DEN on the Q400 for Republic. That is the only chance for DEN.

Commuting on any certificate is the same. It all depends on what base you are going to, and where you are commuting from.

I know when I got my class date that I was told that they don't know what base I would get except that it would not be Denver. In class they will give us what is open and then you will pick by seniority which is based on age. I turned down one class as I did not want to be on the 145 but I excepted the next class.

[QUOTE=BTpilot;1231970]I don't work there, but RAHcontractnow.org

Read it. Has some words about commuting.

The quote from the company that makes everyone smile is "you choose to commute"...that should say it all man!

Right now we are placing people into a lot of outstation bases on the S5 side. Everyone is being placed in IND and CMH...looks like there are people making transfers into hubs like ORD and LGA, but they got in early and are taking the spots of the upgrades.

They are probably trying to fill spots for the Dash, so DEN and MCI right now...good luck getting there from JAX! Go to XJET man, you will enjoy your life more, trust me. Way better contract.

When I lived in JAX commuting to IAD was sketchy, but a two leg commute? A very ugly prospect.

What about living within a 2 hour drive of base?

You will need to be able to show in 90 minutes of a call out if on reserve. I suppose you could find a coffee shop to hang out at thats 90 minutes from the base and hang out.
