Sounds like something is out of balance to me.

Yeah, they need to drop the contract and add a $20,000 bonus.

Don't get me started on "golden handcuffs". The senior guys complain about how they make too much to go anywhere but Fedex/SWA/DAL. I.E. the guy next to me making 2.5 to 3 times what I make and is complaining about making too much money.

These guys all upgraded in approximately 2 years and never spent more than a couple months on reserve. They've never worked a holiday, a weekend, etc.

Meanwhile I'm a 6 year FO and still not able to hold an upgrade..... making $36.62 an hour, making less take home pay every year.

I get it, this industry is about luck. And I thank my stars I didn't get hired 6 months later, but the senior CAs get paid fairly, but only at the expense of the FOs.

Our competitive labor costs are attained by the subjugation of the FOs.

Did Delta furlough when they merged?
Yes, Delta did. Comair furloughed after the merge. And continued to do so for 6 years. ;)

When you talk to a flight instructor they talk about which major they're gonna work for, you talk to a 6 regional FO and they talk about what they're gonna do after they quit flying.

Unfortunately you were bamboozled! Republic has no systems instructors. They contract that out to FSI. Classes right now are as full as they want them to be. The limitation is available sim time worldwide.

Why's that? I'm sure they get at least 500 from pinnacle. Let me guess, u believe in the pilot shortage in 2013?

The Q400 program is not contracted to FS. Also, recurrent is in house for the 170, so there are Republic instructors.

No, I believe in getting paid well.

I just interviewed with republic last week. There were 15 or so of us and from what I hear they run 3 interview sessions per week. I was shocked to see so many people there after reading what I have on these boards. None of us were former FO's at pinnacle or any other regional. Lesson here is there are a LOT of flight instructors out there with 1400 hours.

In case you were wondering I was offered the job and turned it down. They said they wanted to raise starting pay to $30/hr for FO's and up from there but the union wouldn't let them. In the next breath they said $1600 for 8 weeks of training ($800/mo) and shared hotel room. I'm pretty sure the union didn't keep them from giving us our own room in training.... Really turned me off.

It's $1600 for the first month not 8 wks. ($400/wk stipend). 75 guarantee thereafter. The double occupancy hotel is correct though. However, you don't have to take the hotel room. At my previous two airlines the company didn't provide hotels in training (well, one provided it for 7 days, that was it). You were on your own, so while inconvenient to share a room it is a step up from historical standards of crash pads or finding your own hotel for two months.

And yes. They have PLENTY of people applying for now. With the signing bonus and awarded flying for AA, I suspect they will have plenty of applicants for some time, short term.
