Carriers will be required to provide their crew with a 10-hour rest opportunity prior to commencing a duty period that includes flying. While the 10-rest period may include the amount of time it takes to get to or from a flightcrew member’s house or hotel room, the actual amount of time required for a sleep opportunity may not be reduced below 8 hours. In addition, the length of continuous time off during a 7-day period has been extended from 24 hours under the existing rules to 30 hours.

Not implemented until Dec 21, 2013

Looks like the acclimation period is decent. 72 hrs in theater with a 36 hr rest break.

Starts on Page 39.

I wonder how this will affect our contract negotiations. If you think this is not a big deal, you are not paying attention.

Looks like you can now fly 9 hr red eye turns as long as you duty in before 1759 acclimated time with a 12 hr duty limit.

I believe that is much worse than originality proposed and IMO not very safe.

Oh it is, and now with this out, they are free to offer something early.

How does this affect commuting?

I have not read all of it. These are layered rules so you have to read all of it and digest it.

I do believe that it is probably cost neutral for the DAL. The money that they are quoting is probably for the supplemental carriers.
