Default C-17 landed at Peter o Knight

So today at Peter o knight, I was watching a C-17 landing at this very small strip of runway. I think he was trying to land at Macdill AFB. This was crazy!!! All you heard was the reverse thrust at its max. I'm just pondering how they're going to get it off the ground and fly to macdil; Plus the airport is uncontrolled airspace. Now how did the pilot manage to do that?

Im no C-17 pilot...but based on my very unscientific observances at airshows...I would think they could get it out after unloading any cargo that might be on it.

Somebody's gonna be doing a little carpet dance though.

Been there, done that, got the 709 ride to prove it.

To the crew, it happens to the best of us. Good luck.

Video here, looked fairly benign.

C-17 Globemaster lands at Tampa's Peter O. Knight airport

Hope the crew is ok and hopefully are able to fly again if it was in error.

Happened here at CRP back in the day so now it is on ATIS all day not to confuse the two.

Must have been some close calls (or actual misidentifications) amongst El Paso (KELP) and Biggs Army Airfield (KBIF) in the past too.

CTN: BIGGS AAF 2NM NW RWY 21 CAN BE MISTAKEN FOR ELP RWY 22

I remember my first time going in there and many people warned me about the possibility of misidentification and probably made it even MORE nerve racking than it needed to be

Best of luck to the crew - but there is going to be "sum explaning to do Luuuucy" (imagine Desi Arnez accent)
