Default A330 compressor stall, abort - video

Thomas Cook Airlines attempting takeoff from Manchester, UK. British Pilots always sound so collected during emergencies.

Jet engine explodes on runway, Airbus A330. - YouTube

Apparently this same plane (G-OMYT) has had a number of instances of shutdowns. Always the right engine, too. Odd. Can't be good for keeping ETOPS...

Incident: Thomas Cook A332 over Atlantic on Oct 26th 2012, engine shut down in flight
Incident: Thomas Cook A332 near Shannon on Nov 9th 2012, engine malfunction
Incident: Thomas Cook A332 near Belfast on Nov 17th 2012, engine shut down in flight
Incident: Thomas Cook A332 at Manchester on Jun 24th 2013, rejected takeoff

I love all the comments on this online article about it...

Holy Crap It's Good This Airplane Wasn't Flying When Its Engine Exploded

"Can this plane fly with single engine?" That is a fair enough question from a non aviator.

Response- "Yes... just not on takeoff. Only good as assisted gliding thrust. That's one way only, to land."

"OK, I guess I have to spell it out on a map in big block letters: Airbus is Boeing's main competitor. Boeing has a vested interest in making Airbus aircraft look unsafe. My comment was a snarky reference to the possibility that Boeing engaged in some sabotage to make their competition look bad. Is it clear now?"

Nice video of the incident. Looks a little more severe than a compressor stall.

Next PPC is already passed for this crew!! Nice work.

Wow...great video. Wonder if that was a low speed or high speed reject?

What makes you say that? From what I can see it looks like a classic compressor stall. Momentary airflow disruption resulting in huge bang, some flames out the back of the engine and then back to normal ops (in most cases). I used to get them a lot in my AF days.
