Southwest Lands at Wrong Airport
#371
Imagine how we found airports in days of yore without GPS or RNAV for that matter.
Can't blame it on the avionics either. Like other carriers around the planet, doesn't Southwest require is crews to back up visual approaches with all available NAV aids along with the use the FMC for a proper profile and crosschecking?
How about altimeter cross checks during final... KBBG 1302' KPLK 940'. Why didn't the crew did not find it strange when passing 1,100' to find no pavement? How about the airport layout? The airport diagrams are different in all respects?

Well, how often does a fire alarm go off in a hotel and you look around and don't see a problem and say "I wish they'd shut that thing off" versus throwing on your shoes and running outside.
You've really have to be spring loaded to go around, that's all there is to it but easier said than done.
