Can't blame it on the avionics either. Like other carriers around the planet, doesn't Southwest require is crews to back up visual approaches with all available NAV aids along with the use the FMC for a proper profile and crosschecking?

How about altimeter cross checks during final... KBBG 1302' KPLK 940'. Why didn't the crew did not find it strange when passing 1,100' to find no pavement? How about the airport layout? The airport diagrams are different in all respects?
How does one continue when all of those other things aren't matching up?

Well, how often does a fire alarm go off in a hotel and you look around and don't see a problem and say "I wish they'd shut that thing off" versus throwing on your shoes and running outside.

You've really have to be spring loaded to go around, that's all there is to it but easier said than done.

They call that "landing anticipation." I prefer to use "go-around anticipation." That way I'm never surprised if I have to punch the TOGA button.

Within the last couple of weeks in LAS. The damage was pretty bad. I have a picture of it, but don't know how to post it off of my phone.

You mean like when the United DC-6 landed at the Council Bluffs airport instead of Omaha Eppley?

While I agree with the sentiment, seems to me this happened more frequently "in the days of yore"...I seem to remember EAL landing at Macdill about once a quarter.

Oh, you exaggerate and got the wrong airline,

From the web:

June 20, 1980 - A Delta Air Lines 727, bound for Tampa, Florida (TPA), mistakenly lands at MacDill Air Force Base

GF (ex-EAL, before the scabs)
