travel in on one of your 16-17 duty days.
16 is the norm, 17 is allowed at an over ride that goes above guarantee. It’s rarely used but does happen.
that leaves 14-15 actual work days minus required rest.
it beats commuting in a day early or day late and cuts into those extra 7-11 days off a year.
we keep our air miles and use them to take family on vacation with real tickets not standby.
no crashpads either. Once you leave home you always get a hotel and yes you keep those points too. Our family took a three week vacation and never paid for airfare or hotels the entire time.
our CBA looks more like Kalitta’s before their recent extension.
great place to work. Love it here. Never going back to Crashpads and commuting ever again.
I think these questions are about ABX Air.

I'm just as much a noob as you. I'm only making basic observations and edumahcated guesstimates.
Commutability is subjective. I've heard both ends of the spectrum: YOU MUSSED GIT A CRUSHPERD! iBeR and LuFt are uNrELiaBle! A CAR IS NESSESSSSSARY! all the way to "Even on reserve I never sat in CVG long enough to warrant the cost of a crashpad over a night or 2 per month in a hotel."

Usual disclaimers apply: YMMV, caveat emptor, all rebates to dealer. I'm trying to figure this out for myself as well.

My guess is that the goal for commuting would be:
1) Find a cargo flight on Amazon/DHL metal that goes right into CVG. I think building 6 is where all the magic happens.
2) Find a passenger flight that leaves arrives later in the day @CVG (so you aren't sitting around all day waiting for your trip) and get a ride from the CVG passenger terminal to the cargo facility.

If you go with #1 above, you can likely leave your car in Houston for the 17 days you are gone and it won't cost you $$$ per day for 17 days (unless there is a fee for parking at the DHL/Amazon facility).
If you go with #2, you will need Uber/Lyft/Grandma to drop you off at the passenger terminal so you aren't paying for 16/17 days of parking.

I believe all of us on the outside looking in, are all trying to figure out these minor challenges. I'm sure the seasoned vets like nitefreightdog and reactivity are all laughing at us since it all becomes small potatoes eventually.
Thank you much for this insight, you bring up a lot of good view points, at the end of the day i guess it all boils down to perspective.
Plenty to mull over.

Quote: ABX is currently running interviews for October 5th class, planning a 2 class of 12.
-Currently Running 2 September class, 10 each class.
-Probably another class early November.
-2 more B76 to come in 4th Quarter 2021
-45 New hires on property.
-A LOT of retirement in the horizon.
-2022 seems to be a promising year for ABX.
-Upgrades down to 5 yrs.

Upgrades down 5 years so instead of 19 you have 14. Zero growth in airplanes and get comfortable in a crash pad.

Oh, good - another ATI troll. That's just what the world needed right now.

Recent CBA, prospective growth, good schedule/QOL, descent pay…what’s the downside of ABX? Any job has pros and cons.
