Quote: It seems like your perspective is to “stretch” every rule to the limit to possibly trade them for something. The thing is if you look at transition or rsv drop they don’t survive if exploited. Transition was just too good not to exploit and we all knew it wouldn’t last another contract cycle so why not work it to the limit. Rsv drop was a huge quality of life provision and could have been modified to not allow center day only drops but instead it got elimited with a brief modification period until pbs. The loss of float vacation on rsv was a massive hit I don’t think many understand. It happened because a few abusers decided to show many and those that didn’t abuse it got raped as a result.

There’s also this stigma in the airlines that rsv is junior so it should suck and nobody cared when we voted rsv drop and float vacation away. Rsv is just an on call line instead of trips. Why should it be junior or senior. It’s just another type of line. Why should someone senior enough to be a lineholder be forced to bid a garbage line of trips instead of a line of RAPs just to get a drop or float vacation? And why should someone not able to hold a line not be able to have those provisions same as a lineholder? Rsv has some pretty senior bidders because it doesn’t suck here. It’s not for everyone but it doesn’t suck. Well R3 sucks. And because a group of folks decided to “stretch” some rsv rules, it now sucks a little more.

This company will reinterpret this contract in their favor everyday. I realize that and I file my NCCs like a good boy and hold them to what they agreed to. Fact is there are bad parts of the contract that they don’t utilize that they will if they need to if a bunch of guys start excercising their legal right to mess with the rsv availability. If a few guys have nice little legal thing goin, great. Theres just no reason to get a bunch doing it just to screw the company for few years and in the end have it eliminated next round these things aren’t transition, we’re not getting anything for them. They’ll just be eliminated to never return.

My opinion is worth what you paid for it though.
Reserve at UAL/DAL is way better than even old reserve here. hence why it's senior.

Oh btw, ALL LONG CALL.

You can always vote NO on the next contract and not give away all our work rules like we did this last time around

The reality is the reason we lost the ability to drop reserve days is because 70% of you voted to get rid of it.

That’s an ignorant statement. You could also say that 70% voted for a pay raise which would also be inaccurate. The problem with single issue voting is that you always have to vote no. We voted on what our negotiators gave us. It wasn’t great, but it was better than we had overall. I bid rsv R11, I drop a block every month. It’s a nice schedule.

Can't speak to DAL, but NB reserve at UAL is a junior man's game. The rules are not exactly favorable (there are some good ones) and there's not much push to get them improved. Dropping R-Days is extremely rare. Most NB domestic reserves are constantly on short call (2.5 hour to show) and field standby (in uniform at the airport-4 hours) for no extra pay. Rarely see anyone above 70% bid reserve here. I can count the number of LSR days I've had in the last year on 3 fingers. Feb 2017 hires in EWR 737 are still on reserve (not by choice).

That's not how negotiations should be weighed. I can increase the hourly pay by $1 and legitimately say that it is overall better. Some of us voted no because we knew that we could have done better and that there is such a thing as bluffing in this whole negotiations game. We didn't call their bluff and after their cost neutral earnings report post ratification, 30% of the pilot group were proven to have some credibility in our hope for something that brought us closer to industry standard.

Some of us simply thought that the company was saving enough with the work rules concessions that they could have paid what an Airbus pilot is worth in today's market.

This ^^^ I'm very tired of hearing from folks I fly with that "its better then my regional" type mentality all the while complaining about the loss of some of the work rules (reserve and now the ability to drop R days in a relief line , and the LTD issues). If you voted yes you knew the ability to drop reserve days was going away, and you were ok with that, its not fair to blame the folks who dropped days with in the confines of the (past) contract and tell them they are the reason that no one can drop R days anymore (sure the company probably wouldn't have pushed so hard to change it in the new one) but no one forced you to vote yes for the new contract.
