Quote: Yes, agreed. A valuable resource. So, when that fleet goes away through fuel costs or large RJ staffing needs... will they merge, or recycle with preferential hiring? Which would you do?

We all know there won't be enough pilots. So, which plane gets parked first? The E145 or the E175?

You're correct, do what's right for you.
They continued to operate wholly owned 50 seat jets during the last downturn and rise in oil. There is no reason to suspect they wouldn't do the same thing in the event prices rise again ESPECIALLY with all the flying coming back in house and to mainline. Good things btw

Also, 50 seaters aren't the future here at PDT. Temporary solution as we transition into a different airline.

One more thing for those considering Piedmont that are coming in with ATP minimums that I don't think anyone has mentioned. Piedmont requires a minimum of 2500 hrs to be a captain (I believe it's an insurance minimum) which is part of the reason upgrade is soo low. Many FO's hired in 2012-13 timeframe where hired right after an ATP was required for both seats and many were hired with a restricted ATP at around 1000-1200 hrs. At Piedmont I was flying about 600-700 hrs a year so these guys are having to bypass upgrades because they do not meet the insurance minimums to be captain. If you decide to go to Piedmont in hopes of a quick upgrade just make sure you have the time. I enjoyed all the people I worked.

About how long would it take to reach the 1000 required hrs?? With the actual growth?

Yes, but they also parked all the Saabs, returned a significant portion of the ATRs and canceled the last 50 145s they had ordered during that time.

But I do think they have a plan for all their wholly owneds

Of course there's a plan for all three and they are in the works. Even Piedmont was on it's last leg and AAG wasn't going to pump millions into it and make an Ex-Vice President of US Airways the new Leader unless they had a plan.

Now it's just a matter of grabbing the popcorn and watching it play out. Knowing Parker it will probably play out just as he planned.
