Quote: All right ... another subject for StarClipper to educate us with his vast knowledge of everything aviation (is this FoxHunter with a different screen name?).

Maybe he can go back to his sailboat roots and educate them?

Hey, don't blame whiny girls for that BS.

He's not a FedEx pilot, he's just trolling.

Quote: So if we’re really only netting an additional 8 airframes over the next 3 years, why are we still hiring 450 a year? There has to be more to come I’d guess
Um, retirements?

There are nearly 500 pilots that will turn 65 or be older than 60 with at least 25 years by DEC 31, 2018.

What were the retirement numbers for the last couple years?

Not really sure. We can't know how many of those over 60 have put in paperwork to retire in December. Obviously, not all of those nearly 500 are going to retire, but with the seniority forecasting tools, it doesn't seem unreasonable to me that close to 200, including the 60-70 turning 65, will leave this year.

May sound like a dumb question, but how do you interpret the data on Seniority List Calculator on the ALPA site? It shows a bunch of 14's and 12's under Seniority Number and 0 and 1's on the Change. Thanks

Quote: Interesting FCIF, while there is a table with min/max staffing levels in each seat there is no seat specific vacancy numbers, just totals. Also I do not ever recall seeing disclaimers before as if something significant will happen in the next few weeks:

"Although we strive to provide as much information is possible, this information is subject to change as the bid and numbers unfold. Please consider your choices carefully and as I always stress, bid what you want to fly!"
I thought the same thing. He had two disclaimers in there about how the bid could change depending on how FY19 Business Planning continues. Really? How can they change the bid when Section 24.B.6 says "A System Bid may not be amended after it is published..."

I've been hearing through the rumor mill that FedEx will get an additional 4 777s this year.

How junior do you think narrow body and wide body Captain will go on this bid?
