In a show of political strength, Georgia lawmakers on Thursday overwhelmingly approved a bill that was stripped of an earlier provision granting Delta Air Lines a lucrative tax break.

By passing the bill, lawmakers carried out the threat that Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, R, made to Atlanta-based Delta earlier this week: if the airline did not restore discounted fares to members of the National Rifle Association, Republicans would strike down a $50 million sales-tax exemption on jet fuel from its larger tax-cut package. Delta, which is one of the state's largest employers, would have been the primary beneficiary of the exemption
A $50 million dollar tweet.

A reminder to Amazon that Atlanta has the blue city in a deep red state problem. My money is DC or Denver gets the Amazon HQ2

Right decision. Nice job Georgia. I never thought I was say that.
Why? Explain how it’s ok for a government entity to get involved. I would understand discussion over the validity of the tax break, But after it was approved (in house), it’s absolutely horrible.

A lot of people talk about rights. Freedoms. Big government. States rights. Etc etc. The very foundation of why we are all sooooo goddam lucky to be born here. But can you not see this is extortion by a government body to force our airlines to publicly believe what THEY believe???

Delta is a private company. Within the bounds of the law they should be able to say and do anything they want free from tyranny of government. If it’s such a big deal, the public won’t ride on their planes and they will go bankrupt. But that is for the market to decide, NOT government.

All you witnessed here today is public officials crapping on deltas 1st amendment. The very thing you retards with a million guns cry about. The hypocrisy of raving about second amendment rights while simultaneously jumping for joy as delta is punished for the 1st is disgusting. Shame on you.

What if this happened with chick fil lays public discrimination against lgbt. Would you cry havoc? Or do the amendments only mean something to you when it fits your own beliefs. This infringes on all our rights, and it should scare you.
Delta management is free to use the corporation to advance their personal opinions and agenda.

In fact...they are even free to use the threat of loss of employment to coerce and control employees behaviors and free expression of points of view contrary to these management personal opinions and agendas.

Otoh....the taxpayers of GA other than delta are not required to be obligated by law to subsidize those opinions /agenda.

Nobody in GA is passing a law to limit free speech. The representatives of the taxpayers and residents just decided to not extend an economic subsidy to a wealthy and economically successful constituent.

Every driver that fills their car at the gas station pays the fuel tax. So can delta.

If you want the real reason it got dumped iv got a swa conspiracy to sell you.

Well put.

What's been troubling me the most recently is the gun fondlers who are ready to roll back the protections of due process, freedom from unreasonable search and seizure and long-held privacy rights just so they can have free and ready access to any gun their ego requires. That, to me, is 1000 times scarier and more dangerous than a 1000 AR-15s. Hands off your guns? How bout hands off my first, fourth, fifth and ninth amendment rights?

Call him a deplorable.

That worked so well for Hillary.

I'm assuming you're aware that the tax break was for all Jet A in GA and not just for Delta? Delta was just going to benefit heavily from it (so the actual amount to Delta wouldn't be $50 million either).
Thats why i termed it a 'conspiracy'.
