I am looking at possibly making a change and possibly coming to Spirit.
I have heard that sim training at Spirit is four sim sessions and then a checkride and if bust your checkride, you get another couple sessions and a recheck. Is that true? What % of people fail their first attempt at the checkride?

Yes that’s true. The percentage of failures is very low. Not sure the total , the total wash out rate is around 6%

Was told that the total pass rate is high but the percentage of people needing remedial training at some point in training is also high (about 30%). The total pass rate doesn't include people that drop out of training in the middle for whatever reason. Remedial training will show up on PRIA.

ExpressJet is offering pilots a full return option up to 60 days (IIRC). Several are entering training, having issues, and then returning to XJT.

Dude in all honesty it's really not that hard. If you can fly even at a decent level and you treat training as 2 months of learning everyone should pass. In my 2016 NH class not one person failed a single test or needed extra training in the sims or otherwise. People who show up wanting to pass and put in the work have no problems.

Flew with an August newhire, 70% of his class had to redo oral or type ride. YMMV

A pink slip isn't a fun thing to have on your record.

Four sims doesn’t seem like a lot.

But you get something like 12 or 13 FTD sessions before you get to sims. In the ftd sessions you get your normal procedures down. You don’t get to move on to sims until you pass the stage check.

The FTDs are kinda crappy but it does the job.

When you move on from the FTDs to the FFS you get to fiddle with the seats for the first time and finally get a set of rudder pedals so that you can finally do engine out stuff on Sim #2.
