I mostly agree with you, some of the people that have gotten hired here recently should not have been. The training is the same, failures have gone up. I just want spirit to hire people who are ready and capable.

How's thew washout/failed rate been in the past couple month, especially since the contract ratification? Classes must be full.

What two areas should an airline not cut costs? It doesn't matter if "it works". There is not enough time in the seat to iron out kinks. It is very clear that those in charge of training are constantly stressed out. I jumpseated and the FO had just got checked to line and it was a$$es and elbows. This guy was previous 121 for 20+ years. Despite the disorganization, he was competent.

I'll update everyone. Yes there is a new syllabus.

5 CPTs
8 CSIs
4 FTDs
4 Full Flight Sims

The syllabus is being edited again because some lessons have too much stuff. This is only a bandaid for AQP, which we're hoping is 12-18 months away.

We will have to add a 5th sim this year or early next year when upset training is required. All line guys will also be trained. Sim 8 in DFW, the newest one, is supposed to be able to accomplish the upset training.

As for the classes and failure rates. The classes still have no shows. I have lessons in May that have cancelled due to people not showing. The failure rates are slightly lower. I want to clarify, we still have a very high rate of guys making it through. There are just extra lessons along the way.

I forgot, we've been using the FTD in DFW and it's obvious how much it's helping and those students are way ahead of those in FLL using the TSTs. There should be a new FTD in FLL soon so everyone can be on the same level before getting in the sims.

For those that don't know the DFW FTD is basically a non motion sim.

It's fun flying a 4 day and feeling like you just gave OE to a FO that's been here 9 months. The bummer is not getting the instructor override!

I've spoken with a few CA's here that feel the above is becoming more and more the norm here.

Oh and there has been serious talks of new hires now doing the type and all of training in the right seat. Should see that change with the updated syllabus that's coming out in the next few weeks.

Then it’s not a pic type. What do you have to say about that?

AQP has been 12-18 months away for at least 6-7 years now, what’s different now?
