Anyone smart on how the min/max numbers are cooked compared to this?

For example, on the current small GUM vacancy, the min/max shows SFO full at 83 max for 756FO. If they needed another 21 pilots, why not show around 104 max. In order for the min/max to be accurate, I assume that either they’re planning ahead for another large vacancy and associated exodus around the time these guys finish OE or that they don’t accurately post the min/max numbers. The latter seems unlikely because of how they reference min/max as important in crew resources.

The company mentioned that there wouldn’t be any backfills on this award so that would make the min-max numbers different than “normal” The old unfilled vacancies still count

Quote: The 737 pays less than the 756, but will the 737 FO upgrade to CA quicker, thus killing it on the pay at an earlier point than the 756 FO?
Remember, if you are a new-hire it doesn’t matter which airplane you get, you will be paid the same first year probation pay.

How long are the EWR overnights for SFO756? For a EWR local, getting overnights at home and doing a reverse commute could potentially not be too bad, especially with the higher second year Pay. But I’d assume if you wanted EWR, it’s easier to get there in the 737/320 than 756 right? Especially as a NYer who’d actually prefer to do LGA trips instead of driving across the river to EWR.

15-22 hour layovers seem to be the norm for West coast 757 based pilots that has us staying in Mid Town. Anything under 15 you will be at the airport layover hotel. I find most trips that get the airport layover generally are after an all nighter, which as a junior pilot in SFO you’ll see plenty of those. Occasionally a day time trip will also get the airport layover, but those tend to be more efficient and desired for those of us that don’t want to be gone long nor fly an all nighter.

You would likely be better off going 737/320 if you want to get to EWR faster and do LGA trips.

Definitely go 737/A320 if you want LGA. The difference in pay is negligible, especially because you’ll be a lineholder quicker and usually getting more credit than a reserve. I would guess a lineholder on the 737 would make more than a reserve 756.

Yup. Go to the 737 or 320 in EWR if you want to fly out of LGA. It would be insane, IMHO, to bid the 756 on the west coast and do the reverse commute for layovers at home.

If you can’t get EWR during indoc you’ll get it quickly on a following bid. Unfilled vacancies in EWR on the 737/320 are the norm and not the exception . And you can always move up to the 756 later.

I’m not up the current flying situation on the 320 but if you are local on the 737 you’ll be able to get plenty of LGA trips. The majority of locals live west of the river and most the commuters tend to prefer EWR.

Other than the small cadre of guys that live in Manhattan or Long Island, it seems like the LGA trips either go more junior (realitivly speaking) or disproportionately end up on the trade board.

YMMV.

Not sure about the chances but base trades open on the 9th if you don’t get what you want. Even in indoc you can try for a base trade.

Absolutely but remember Base trades have to be entered every cycle. Put a standing vacancy bid in for the lateral. New hire stick mate got an award about 2 weeks into training thanks to the new summer classes being announced.
