[QUOTE=SyFy;2799328]First time poster here. Hi all. I wanted to contribute my experience to help others.

Welcome! I am a newbie as well. No final offer yet I assume? Are you slated for the August class by choice (you were only available in August) or is that what was on your CJO originally?

This rumor rears it's head every year. I don't think UPS will ever get rid of the pool. It's the way they've done it forever. It gives them total control over stacking their new-hire candidates, and once you get on property, you'll learn that's the way they like it.

Even if they went FIFO, it would certainly help the process. I'm guessing that'll never happen either. Hopefully everyone dries off soon from the swim. We're glad to see all the new hires on property.

Interesting and distant source. Clearly not familiar with UPS HR process as practiced. UPS HR is in a logistics quagmire. Several departments impact new hire flow and mostly a reactive process.
They respond to demands outside their control. (Training department capability for example) which is impacted by many other variables and pressures internal to the company.
Having a pool is the normal outcome of a variable and reactive practices of UPS management.
The real frustration with the pool, isn't that it operates as a functional accumulator for hiring and scheduling demands, (most folks actually pass through the pool even if as short as a few days) but that once in the pool it is essentially a black hole. Once in the pool one never knows their orbit. Many get to close to the edge and never are seen again....others are fortunate to be pulled out before they disappear.
Would be nice if UPS simplified to a first in, first out order in the pool.
Wont change IMO. Works for UPS.

Quote: Company announced today its plans to hire between 275-300 pilots in 2019.

No news of any additional aircraft acquisitions, route expansions, or any base changes, ie. SDF 747 domicile. MD continues to ween itself out of ANC.

Best of luck to all.
Just announced the closing of MD Anc base. They will all be transferred to SDF.

technically the planes will. I think the pilots can bid whatever their seniority will hold. hopefully another 100+ upgrades and 100+ vacancies in the June bid.

No big news. The ANC MD pilots have known this was coming for months. Supposedly the sim will be moved this summer also.

Almost all of the captains are going to stay in ANC on the 74. The majority of FOs will too. The story is the MD will be out of there by fall, so the debate was if everyone will get DH front and back lines, TDY or what since whale training is so backed up.

One less choice to bid until the new one is announced...big question is whether this will free up more jumpseats or just more P3s

Think neutral overall. Many ANC MD crews appear to move to the 747, so same numbers as one fleet disappears and the other grows on JS side. P3s on Z side same, MD folks that fly in will mostly be operating, not taking P3. Overall. Give a neutral for the next few years. After that, to many variables.

Announced today:

UPS announced the purchase order of four (4) additional new B767s from Boeing. These new aircraft will be delivered between 2020 and 2022.

With this announcement, the number of aircraft being added to the UPS fleet (2017-2022) now totals forty-nine (49). Of these (49) additional aircraft to be flown by IPA represented crewmembers, (28) are new 747-8s, (13) are new 767s, (3) are 767s converted from JAL, and (5) are 767s dry leased by UPS on a long-term basis.

Where oh where are all these airplanes going to park? SDF, ANC are full. A new domicile announcement could be coming this summer. Or not. UPS does a good job keeping secrets. So good upper management doesn’t even know the plan yet😷
