Might make sense for a 170 50 seater. I've heard talk about converting 175s to whatever the CRJ700 scope is on American (68?), so the 550 might not be the only one downsizing the pax numbers

Thanks for those numbers. I know that the compass E175s are certified closer to 89,000 and were grandfathered in under the NWA scope.

American scope defines small RJs (50-65) and large (66-76). The CRJ700s in the American Eagle fleet are mostly 63/65 seats, and SkyWest is converting the 70 seat ones to 65 seats, making way for more E175s/CRJ900s at the WOs. I couldn’t find a weight limit for the 65 seat aircraft besides a generic number of 86,000 for all American Eagle RJs.

Bedford at Republic said a 50 seat 170/175 won’t really work like a CRJ700 for the reasons Zondaracer posted. However, they are exploring converting the 170s (which currently fly for UA and DL) to 65 seats for AA. That’s seems to be workable so I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

I think this is a very plausible scenario

Significant difference but is it unbridgeable? 50 seat 500nm?
