Quote: I can do the commute to Miami for out and backs but would prefer overnights, 3-7 days away. How difficult would it be to get this? I have been offered a class date but info like this has been hard to come by from HR.
That is really not the type of flying we do. The only trip built that way is our Brussels flying out of MIA. MIA flying is not bid as lines, so there's no guarantee that is the flying you'll get. The "guaranteed" lines are the temp bases which are all basically 16 days on and 12 days off.

I'm baffled by the fact that there has not been a LOA that switched from bidding days off to bidding actual lines. It seems pretty industry standard and would've been an easy sell.

Schedule
Sounds like it would just be Seniority to get the trips with overnights. Thank you for your info.

Currently yes. Supposedly as part of the contract being worked on the days off bidding will go away for some type of line. What that will look like though I don’t know.

Sort of, but you either get 15 overnights in a row or whatever the company builds you with MIA flying (which is mostly day trips). Seniority doesn't impact which trips you get for the latter, but that is expected to change with a new contract.

"Industry standard" is a myth.

"Easy sell" is not an accurate description of anything in this business.

If “Industry Standard” is a myth, try hearing “Industry Leading”, that is a mystery rapped in a riddle hiding behind an enigma.

I believe interviews have been going on this week. Anyone heard back from them? April class?

Cheers

Class dates
I was offered end of April but wound up mid Mid. Also very curious as to realistic schedule. Willing to sacrifice hours for days home. And needing to be able to convey info to family regarding what to expect going forward. Emailed hr but would like to hear some more regarding real life expectations.

I left AmeriJet recently with the schedule being a major factor in that decision. As AmeriJet stands now it really depends on if you are going to be a commuter or if you are going to live in MIA. As a commuter I only did the temp base lines, which are 16 day trips. It was actually the best QOL I could get in my situation. The two months I had to be based at MIA out of training was awful as a commuter and I wasn’t home much. However if you live in MIA and can hold MIA flying it can be a much different company. AmeriJet has a lot of potential, but they looked to be moving more and more to the long ACMI type trips and no movement in pay or QOL while I was there, even with the continued promises that it was coming. The 757s are coming online but I bet the MIA flying will go senior. Many are happy there, upgrade is quick, but I would expect to be gone 16 days a time after training. If that won’t work for your family I would consider somewhere else.
