Boeing, Airbus and Embraer are lazy. All they do is re-engine older airframes. The A220 is the only serious clean sheet narrowbody out there and they are starting to rack up more and more orders. Time for SWA to join the club!

If only designing and producing a reliable, efficient, modern Part 25 airliner to be sold in the thousands at a rock-bottom pricepoint without negatively impacting operator logistics and supply chains on was as easy as pilots seem to believe...

For the most part, stretching/modifying/re-engine has served Boeing pretty well. Look back at their history of aircraft.

Agreed. The 737 Max is a result of airlines wanting the lowest cost option. Boeing is just feeding the market. Boeing would love to build a clean sheet design, just send money.

BS. The MAX was Boeing’s slipshod response to Airbus’s NEO program and it was clearly caught flat footed when NEO sales started to grow. It could have been further along in designing a 737NG replacement but it wasn’t.

Bombardier had an excuse - it was smaller and undercapitalized and it wasn’t a surprise when it ran into cash issues after lengthy engine-focused delays. Boeing has ZERO excuse as it has been flush with cash for decades and it has had the means to design something very innovative - but it hasn’t.

While I would love to see the proposed 797 some day, I won’t hold my breath. Any reputation for design innovation it had built up over the years is dissipating rapidly.

Only 19 ordered from 3 Airlines
With Republic canceling their order for 40 aircraft the A220 is -25 for the year.

Huh? There are hundreds if not a thousand+ orders for the 220.

Wrong. Several airlines have very recently ordered the A220 (Czech Airlines, Egyptian Express and Air Austral) on top of bigger orders from Air France, JetBlue and Dave Neelman’s Moxy while many more are closely reviewing it.
