Quote: This would be my guess. I also wonder if we would start taking over some of TSA’s 145 routes out of Denver.

As far as 840 a year the company is (so far) close to on track for that.

Hiring seems to have slowed to a trickle. Went from 29 to 19 to only 9 in the last class.

Maybe the next class will be back to 32 but the numbers don’t support that.

Seems EWR shrinking and CLE closing isn’t good PR?

Quote: Not enough traffic to justify its existence
The flights to LGA and DCA that are soon ending we’re mostly full. All the years I flew them I almost always had someone in the jumpseat. That was also the case with BOS right up until United ended there out of CLE as well. BOS was picked up by Delta and JetBlue added flights after United gave it up. If there’s not enough traffic to justify it’s existence how come Delta, American, and JetBlue are doing the routes United has abandoned?

UA is reducing its presence in CLE. The CLE domicile (UA) is shrinking via attrition.

I agree the BOS/LGA/DCA flights were full when I flew them too. Unfortunately, we are pilots and not network planners. Plus Xjet(all regionals) are subcontractors and go where their mainline partner tells them.

Bos has about 17 flights a day to EWR not all UAL but most are. United serves them all with 737/320 and are full to the point it's hard to commute on most of the time. Usually try for JB because there is always a ton of room on those flights. UAL doesn't serve BOS with FFD airlines because they can do it with mainline.

I have been on multiple JB flights with at least 8 UAL pilots plus FA, because htey couldn't get on UAL flights.

Not only bad PR (not everyone wants to live in Texas), but they’ll lose some already-trained guys and gals who will simply walk across the street in EWR and get a nice bonus for it. CLE people can simply hump it down to PIT for Republic or make a switch to a DL partner at DTW. Commuting out of CLE to a UA hub is already very difficult.

If our mgmt were smart they’d just do some deadheading instead of shrinking/closing but hey, bean counters are running the place now with no one pushing back. Why is it that XJT have closed five domiciles in as many years?

We were all convinced it was SKYW who were the enemy, but at this point I think it’s clear we have developed a pattern.

CLE is mostly a haven for super senior L-XJT guys. Super senior equals super expensive in the eyes of the new management. XJT wants to be the new Mesa, and it’s well on its way. Very hard to tell the difference on the radios now.

Yes, my theory is Commutair will back fill CLE, ORD and EWR in our departure.

Many ultra senior L-XJT in IAH as well. Wonder how they plan to kick them out the door?

Most of the super senior L-XJT CAs in IAH are instructors at the Training Center. The instructors and senior CA’s at IAH will stay till retirement. The movement will come from junior CAs moving on to UA and other career opportunities

there will be no backfilling in CLE. The only RJ flying is to hubs and can easily be shifted to other bases. C5 won’t be opening a crew base in CLE.

please show me on the ouchie doll where UA/Xjet hurt you

Through flights. According to the Commutair forum they’re already in ORD. They don’t need a base for that. They will be directly backfilling us in EWR however.

Was that last sentence really necessary?
