With the announced 777 SRL and public announcements that UA is “parking widebody aircraft” - this thread is to track the retirement schedule and related impact.

Did UAL publicly say they were parking WBs? I may have missed that. Source please?

I’m sure the company put out a press release, I’ve been seeing it in the news. I haven’t seen any confirmation of the specifics of the drawdown but based on the SRL for the fleet I think it’s a safe guess.

Wouldn’t the less efficient wide body aircraft be the 767?

There are differences between reduced utilization, alternate deployments, temporarily storing aircraft, and retiring aircraft.

UAL has not said anything about retiring 777s (aka fleet reduction).

However, UAL is absolutely overstaffed with 777 FOs as the airplanes are redeployed into domestic service because it does not take 3 FOs to staff a transcon.

It’s not all about absolute efficiency.

For example, a 3/4 full 767 is more efficient than a 1/2 full 777.

I bet they early retire some older 756/767

We've got some old 777s. I could see some of them flying to Vacaville.
