You are obviously relatively new to the airline industry.

Heck, 40-50 hours of regional FO pay is probably less than unemployment pay.....
definitely less when you take out benefit costs that would be free as unemployed.

and I’m not new unlike him if he is. And I don’t agree with what union is doing. Sell the bottom for the top. But hey, we are all entitled to our own opinions

That’s a two way street. The bottom force the top. The top force the bottom. The basis for your statement is equally wrong in reverse.

Again, everyone has different circumstances. Everyone taking mandatory 50% pay-cuts does not afford anyone’s extreme situation any consideration (extremely good or bad). And remember that 50% pay-cut included benefit and healthcare reductions.

What was provided was the ability for people to choose. Those that have the means and desire to take leave this month and not the next. (Ie - 50% pay-cut) are able to do so. Or maybe they elect to take leave both months. And healthcare and benefits are preserved.

But for those of us who can’t afford it - how should it be decided who stays and who goes? This is a timeless question.

This is NOT just a choice for the top of the list. Those that are junior get to choose too.

Maybe everyone should make their first choice “COLA-leave” for April. Then what?

The option you promoted doesn’t give anyone a choice.

The MEC option does!

What was negotiated was the ability for senior people to choose and the most junior people to get what’s left over. That’s the same way the bid works every month. You signed up for a seniority system when you joined the association.

If senior people want to take a pay cut so you can keep your job then they have that choice.

Let me say that again:

IF SENIOR PEOPLE WANT TO TAKE A PAYCUT AND LET JUNIOR PEOPLE WORK THEN THEY CAN.

Sounds to me like they did a great job making sure IF anyone get’s furloughed then at least they will have an airline to return to.

Almost a year now with C5 great company/good people but I can’t really think of anything positive that the union has done so far. Don’t get me wrong I know they volunteer their time (I think chairman gets pay) but still 2019 was one of the best times for airlines and what did we get ? Nothing, still one of the lowest regionals pay in the market. In regards to the COVID-19 agreement they said “senior people will not carry in the shoulders junior people”, so you sacrifice most of us to keep your 75 hrs pay ? Amazing. Anyway the decision was made, probably by April most of us will be out of jobs and I don’t believe some of you are saying “we have options, senior people will bid for COLA so juniors can flight...” bull.... people will not take pay cuts, let the others suffer.
Hopefully we OPEN our eyes and think very carefully when next union election comes.

Lol. You’re doing it again. You’re still contradicting yourself.

“Good people” but “bull people will not take pay cuts”.

Senior people ARE taking pay cuts and COLA - so please stop.

So tell me how this is all supposed to go. The junior folks with no time invested in the company get to keep their jobs while the senior ones leave? Because it doesn't work like that anywhere, union or not. Airline or not. Not anywhere that seniority rules. If you're at the bottom of a seniority list when cuts come, you have a right to be worried. You likely won't have a job, especially in the airlines.

ALPA reps, especially at C5 aren't getting rich off your dues. Only recently did the company agree that the MEC chair could take full time association leave if needed at min guarantee. And EB will be taking a cut in pay, as will about 20% of the list in the form of COLA or 40 hour reserve. So stuff the BS about the senior people only caring for themselves. If that were true, they would have let the company give us all 50 hours and then immediately furlough about 100 people.

Furloughs were part of any deal given to the union, the "bucket" system actually was actually beneficial to prevent more furloughs than what happened.

No one is safe here, junior or senior. Management is worried and I've been around long enough that nothing has ever burst managements bubble like this. They are also taking 40% cuts. Lets hope this COVID 19 isn't dragged out for too long and that the meltdown isn't prolonged. But it's going to get worse before it gets better. Weak companies like C5 are always the first to struggle with this kind of hit.

As a senior C5 person, I'm sorry that we had to furlough. I took a COLA because I could, at least for a month or two, so that junior folks could keep flying for a bit longer. Those who could take reduced flying and pay, did, including the MEC leaders. Those who couldn't, didn't and since we aren't all wealthy from working at C5, that number was quite small.
