Default ALPA

I do not think I’ll ever forget the words said on phone today from our lovely ALPA reps about company offering a lower minimum guarantee of 50-55hr and everyone keeps jobs. Our senior pilots, who happened to be ALPA reps, say no and accept furloughs so the top 75 pilots can have nice regular paying lines when no airline pilot is getting the normal pay right now. Even the mainline senior pilots are taking concessions. Let’s see how deep they go into furloughs in the seniority list thanks to them.

Alpa are jackals who eagerly toss your dues into their bank accounts as compensation for having fancy lunches together, while line holders do the real work, only to leave you hanging in crucial moments as they cower & scatter rather than represent your best interests.
I got my taste of this last year, shameful to see, but I’ll certainly never forget it.
very sorry alpa and the C5 senior types there are letting you down. It will bite them, I’m sure, but you’ll move on and be wiser.
stay strong

I wasn't able to listen to the call. Did anyone record it or have a summary of what was discussed?

Yep! Told my some my family at UA about what JS said on phone during union call and what they did during negotiations, completely shocked is an understatement. JS definitely made a name for himself along with EB. Crew room definitely is buzzing about those guys and what they did for themselves and no one else. They need to go.

I wasn't on the call, but I would like to hear more about the claims made in the original post. If true, I'm very disappointed.

I remember it being sometime beginning of the call when one of the goons said the company offered “50-55 hours minimum guarantee and everyone would keep jobs” but they did they did not want to sacrifice the top of seniority list quality of life for the bottom of seniority. I think exact words they were not going to have the senior people carry the weight of the junior people. So they said furloughs were coming after this bid next week.

We lose 60% of our flying and you expect there to not be furloughs? I'm not sure what world you're in. I'm amazed we still have jobs! I fully expected to get Compass'ed and be looking for a new job at the end of month.

I've talked to a number of senior captains and there's a good mix of reduced line holders, long call, and LOAs. There's a bunch of guys that picked up 300% like there's no tomorrow in previous months that would like to make 40 hours to sit at home and watch paint dry.

The FOs are another matter due to all the complainging about LOA 4 going away that's been going on for the last few months. Welcome to aviation, hope you have a 6 month furlough fund (because you'll need it once a decade). I really feel bad for the Aussies because they're about to get effectively fired and I'm not sure how much the Union/Company can protect them from their Visa's getting pulled.

Why didn't you throw your hat in the ring when the FO rep was up for vote a few months ago? HE WASN'T EVEN ON THE BALLOT AND GOT IN VIA A WRITE IN CAMPAIGN! Shows you how much the pilot group cared about this position.

IMO, JS has a keen business sense and CEO type personality that is willing to do what's necessary in order to get the best deal available. He wasn't squeamish about what they did and owned it like a good leader would.

The crew room is definitely buzzing, but it's not because they sold the pilot group to management for a sack of glass beads.

There's multiple descriptions of the Q&A out there. I didn't even try and found 3...

The long call is super exciting. The company can't figure out which airport you're at and when you report under normal conditions. You really think they'll be able to figure out how to abuse a 72 hour long call reserve?

Understand the company and union are doing this smartly. They keep a good part of the pilot population at home, healthy, and current. As crews get sick, you pull from those long call reservists that hopefully are still healthy and continue the operation.

Funny...I did try and found nothing. But then again, I don't have a facebook account and never will. 3 links on facebook might as well be at the bottom of the ocean -- I won't see them.
