Quote: Not at all.

First off, you’re too cheap! I’m sorry that is such a low value. I’m sure your loved ones would turn down that sum in exchange for your life, at least I hope that is the case.

The dollar amounts of which you speak all relate to deaths once they occur...no one says “we will pay “X” IN ADVANCE in order to kill/maim people.

Your examples are inapposite. When there is a lawsuit payout it is after the fact, and experts argue in court over the right amount. An insurance payout is just a contract between me and an insurer - it has no relation to my worth, just to how much of a premium I want to pay. I can buy $1000 of insurance or $100,000,000–if I am willing to pay the premium!

Far from trying to squelch discussion, I’m trying to set common terminology to cut through the partisan BS on here.

Thank you for setting your $ number. So would you give up your right to emergency medical care to save your life IF your heirs would receive $200,000?

The science goal is to flatten the curve, but that assumes 100% of people might need emergency care. Maybe enough people like you (and LT Gov Patrick of TX and others on this board) feel strongly that lives should be sacrificed to expedite the recovery, why not do it?

Just as there is a way to isolate those of us wanting to flatten the curve, there must be a way to isolate those willing to die for the economy, and they should be recompensed for this. If this is REALLY just an economic discussion, perhaps there is a new volunteer corps to be started here that will be much more impactful than “Space Force”.

Then those of us willing to flatten the curve and those wanting to get back to work now are both satisfied. N

I think true economic discussions are always worth having, but we don’t take an instrumentalist/purely cost-benefit view in this country (look at death penalty, guns, drugs, etc...it’s always moral or punitive). Always happy to have that discussion!

Ha ha. Not sure if thats flattery or an insult that im too cheap. I have often thought to myself... If im terminally ill how much of my savings should I chomp through to save my own life..... Knowing I could die and leave mu family with that much less.

I have also through recently...... How.much would I need to be paid to be infected.... Never came up with a price.

Yep. I follow all of your logic. I just think that this discussion is going to happen..... Or is already happening but in an indirect manner.

Back to my original point. We cant just be 'open for business'...or 'save lives at ALL cost'. There IS somewhere inbetween that we need to meet. But where....Are you saying that these two options are not.on the same spectrum? Cause that is what most people are arguing.
Another problem..... Those in power who make the desicions will most likely be able to protect themselvs from potential fall out (oh like a war).....they can hardly make an ethical choice.

Thats what I thought..
Nixon opened with china. Clintons fingerprints were on WTO entry. And Bush handled the china MFNTS.

There is plenty of responsibility to go around for the disastrous situation our nation faces.

Imho a large part of the china engagement and economic surrender was driven by the need to find new buyers of US debt.

The power structure will preserve itself....even if it leads to national ruin. And this is exactly what potus after potus and congress after congress has done for the last 3 decades.

I've had two friends' taste come back within a week. Hopefully yours will be the same.

I’m sorry someone hurt you.
Save your pity for the guy in your mirror.

Im just not a fool to be taken in and manipulated by the peddlers of agendas.

This virus is the most immediate of problems we face...but it is no where near the most dire of them. Control of our strategic supply chains is #2 only after the sun threatening going supernova.

The current potus is the FIRST one in 30 years that has stated and recognized supply chain control is essential to national security.

China has us by the balls right now. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Quote: A President doesn’t have the same rights as a private citizen when he is speaking as president. He sets policy, so no, he doesn’t have those same rights. He gave them up when he chose to serve, just like military people do when they swear an oath to defend and protect. That oath takes precedence over his personal desires.

We agree on duration and on hope for quick resolution. I don’t need to wait for history to write what it plainly visible.

But Rick, are you seriously going to silence me because my perceived partisan views conflict with yours? I have not advocated for anyone, and I DO have free speech rights. I’m entitled to criticize and ask questions. I commend you for doing that in public though, as opposed to PM. I respect our dialogue, and if I never see [MOD EDIT: POLITICS] Until then, you can’t just let many of us on here just sit and take this nonsense day after day.

Deal?
No deal. I'm going to silence your partisan cheap shots because that's the rules. I personally am very independent.

People can talk about policy and government here, especially as it relates to our industry.... that means people are going to talk about POTUS. He's POTUS, that's how it is for another 5-ish years and there's no way around it. You do not get to take partisan shots every time his name gets mentioned, even favorably with regards to policy and our industry (which includes COVID).

Please tell me you forgot an 'if' there.

Trying to clarify:

Are cheap shots on former POTUS OK? There are many here.
Are cheap shot on those running for POTUS OK? Just saw one “senile” etc.

What is the actual policy, so we can all comply, please?

And is it enforced uniformly as to all?

By the way, I’m independent too. Just had enough of the imbalance. Was hoping this was either a free forum or at least a balanced one. Or is it neither?

Thanks again for discussing openly, I’m sure others have the same question.

It's not where I wanted to be personally, but I'm calling it like I see it. He's basically a wartime president and they don't lose re-elections. The swing voters are going to vote for safe, ie the devil they know.

Have you actually been to and spent time in China? Done business there? Interacted with a lot of Chinese officials and business people?

People ringing the “Fear China!” bell are a FAR greater threat to this country than is China.

No, I deleted some of that, if I missed it, use the reporting feature.

Yes, but posts here on not "pre-screened" by Mods. If you see something, use the report feature.

It's not balanced at all... since we don't do politics it doesn't need to be balanced ("balanced" is in the eye of the partisan beholder anyway). If you see partisan cheap shots, report it. If you're not sure, feel free to report it and we'll decide.

But discussion of gov and policy is going to happen, and it's going to happen a lot right now. Talking about what POTUS is doing is unavoidable. Cheap shots ("orange-man", etc) are not allowed. It's OK to agree or disagree with policy, but don't make it personal. It's just going to trigger the other team and that only leads to one place.
